I will admit, when I first started playing warlight I would boot at any chance I could, to win or to screw over another team. After doing this a few times I realized that doing this is bad. First, it makes people angry even those who are on your own team and even those not on the team of the bootee. I apologize to those I have screwed over or booted.

Now, I at least ask everyone first, give a warning, or wait till double the boot time(at the very least). Unfortunately many other people dont follow this sort of courtesy.

I have also noticed that some people have multiple accounts. What they do is, create a team game, join the game with their multiple accounts, put one or more account on the opposing team, and then win by cheating. I have been told by the person doing this that they were doing this to increase their win percentage. Personally I dont care about win percentage, I am here to have fun.

Sadly, this happening all the time is rather frustrating. I understand that this is just a game, but something should and needs to be done.

I would like to know the thoughts of others on this situation.

Thanks.

Yes, unfortunately some people let their competitive spirit get the best of them and will resort to despicable tactics to try to get a win.

However, the good news is there's still ways to enjoy the game. One good way is to find a respectable group of friends to play with. Another is to just play 1v1 games, or 2v2s teamed with someone you know (and set the boot time to whatever speed you're comfortable with.) Then there's no way to really get burned.

I hate to bring this up. I would even be happy paying the creator(Fizzer) $5.00 for a once a year account. If someone wants to pay for multiple accounts, then so be it. This would also allow for Fizzer to monitor how many active accounts there are under one credit card or name on card.

hmm.. a healthy alternative.. perhaps allow people to only join/create rated games if they pay a slight fee... then newbies could still play and enjoy the game without having to pay, but we won't be bother with noobs trying to up a relatively unimportant stat, and mainly just ruining the enjoyment for real players who would love to pay a nominal fee for such a great game...

but he hasn't implemented, or wanted to implement a charge format for ages that i have heard of, and doubt he would start now...

but with the influx of new players, especially the noobs using multiple accounts is creating a problem that needs to be fixed...

honestly, i don't see why they don't just create 1v1's vs themselves and then boot themselves? leave the real gamers out of your fake games.

I agree with the IP address restriction. Although you wouldn't have to limit them to one account -- just only allow one player in each game from a given IP address.

The on IP address per game causes a problem as well. What if I have few friends at my place, all playing wirelessly... This would me an that we cant play with or against each other while under the same roof.

I like the idea of having certain access with a paid account and less access with a free account.

make it a one MAC address restriction.. course that could be variable depending if it scanned the modems MAC or the individual computers.. which could cause a problem, since currently me and Eborix play games via a router through the same Modem...

This would not solve 1vs1 but it would for teams. I think that it should be that if a player is booted or surrenders in teams, there should be an option whether the booted or surrendered's army can be taken control of by the other teammate. That player would then have to move for both in the alotted time. There would need to be a toggle button to be able to go between each of players orders.

I've played a lot of games and I've never encountered someone using multiple accounts in the way you describe. I'm not convinced this is as big a problem as you make out. How about posting some links to games where this has occurred. At the very least I can blacklist those players' accounts and never inadvertantly play with them. A simple solution would be to have a reporting mechanism where Randy could look at the persons' accounts and see if they (1) play with the same other account a lot on opposing teams and(2) deliberately tank on one of the accounts to boost the other account.

This strikes me as a tremendous amount of work to boost a relatively worthless statistic. Moreover, the dummy account that always loses no one will want to play with, so you have to keep makling them and finding someone who wants to play a team game with a noob who never wins. I think the problem, if it isn't hypothetical, would be largely self-correcting.

I've run into the issue in free for all games... that is people playing multiple accounts, picking spots near each other, and never attacking each other. It makes any free for all game a 1v1v1v2 or whatever, and it's even more slanted than that, because the other players don't realize they're playing against a team of 2 and don't adjust accordingly. Outside of my general dislike of the nature of free for all games anyway, this has really soured me off of joining random open games, something I used to do frequently. Free for all games are already hard to win, but when people are blatantly cheating (what fun do people derive from this, seriously?) it just makes it a complete waste of time. The only possible fun to be had is when you beat those guys anyway, because they are just terrible players (most legitimately good players don't need to cheat to achieve wins).

No matter what... It is hard for a descent or even a great player to defeat two other players. Whether a team game or free for all.

Again, I would pay $5, $10, maybe even $20 a year to play. To keep the honest people playing with the honest people, ranked games. The "free" accounts do not have access to ranked games.

I dont really care about ranked games and my percentages(as you will notice if you look). I really care about playing with people that are playing fairly.

When it comes to spending/winning money, there will be a lot more players who will cheat.

I said nothing about "winning" money. My idea is... You have to pay for an account if you want to play ranked games. You dont want to pay, you dont play ranked games.

I totally dis agree with anyone who says paying to play ranked games is a good idea. By now there are hundreds of people who play warlight. Maybe more since so many have been joining. I know dozens of people IRL and even more through playing for a while myself. I know for a fact that not one of us would start paying to play. I love playing this game in my spare time, but it is not something I would be willing to pay for. There are many other alternatives to fix problems like this. I dislike some of the crap that happens on here due to people not caring also, but like I said before. There are other ways to fix this. Paying for warlight would most likely end up causing more problems in the future then it would solve.

I admit Bond, $5 a year is too much to pay for a good game.

I agree with your comment,"paying would probably cause more problems in the future than it would solve." My idea is just an idea, I didnt say it was a good one. This idea would or "could" stop those who cheat by creating multiple accounts. Paying wouldnt stop those habitual booters.

Think of it this way. Fizzer is working on this site and not a single one of us is paying him for his services. If a payment is required in the future, think of it as a dontation.

BondSniper - I would like to hear your ideas.

Thanks!

honestly, i think this site runs better then alot of pay sites, or sites with limited availability without paying already, and randy has put alot of work into it, and a slight fee for the ability to play ranked games wouldn't be too much to ask, i can see difficulties, especially with trying to grow our member base, due to that, but i believe randy deserves it.

I also believe that a major reason randy *doesn't* charge for his services, is that it is a hobby for him.. when you start to charge, people start to get certain expectations, you start *having* to do things of which he already does.. but the requirement of doing it may make it feel more like a job, of which i do not think randy is interested in...
