Second WW2 Zork-Type Game: 7/22/2015 04:45:50

This was created so that we don't get tired of the storyline that's running on the other Zork Forum Game WW2. I figure we should start getting involved with another character. So, same rules as the last one! But we are introducing a few things.

Currently
There is a Food and Water upkeep, as in you have to find time and resources to eat and drink. There is also of course the Health factor, where you can take some hits, but you can't take an awful lot but you can heal yourself with proper materials. All of the necessary materials for these being rare!

However, something that was subtly introduced in the first WW2 Zork Game were the Psychological, Illness and Intelligence factors.

Your Psychological factor works basically like the Sanity scale in Amnesia (if you've ever played that game). If you see some stuff that messes you up or if you go through some intense trauma, you're going to lose some of your Sanity. This Sanity can be improved with intuitive solutions, such as calming activities. You can improve your sanity by 3% if you gather your bearings, but if you gather your bearings more than once in a row, you lose 4% (Paranoia).
Sanity is based on a 0-100% scale. At 80-100% you're doing just fine, but at 60-79% you might hallucinate slightly or see things that are not real. At 40-59% you will start experiencing Amnesia, apparent in inventory checks and your memory of your possible options. At 20-39% you will not feel comfortable, and you will start to get sick. At 0-19% you will start losing all function, and if you manage to hit 0% you will black out and lose. Of course, if you simply keep your wits about you, it's rather easy to keep your Sanity at a good place.

You get ill naturally through intuitive factors, such as not taking care of a wound properly or digesting something that is bad or stale. There is no scale to this, and if you get as sick as possible you will slowly die. Overall, this is a factor that can cripple your chances in any direct confrontations. It's avoidable if you know how to not get sick and properly care for yourself.

You gain Intelligence simply by making good decisions. This is a factor that's progress can be observed by Gathering your Bearings (like anything else). If you gather enough Intelligence, you will be given hints to help you reach solutions, which is a snowball effect. Making irrational or dumb decisions naturally reduces your Intelligence.

With that all said, let's get this going!

When you're young, your father takes you out to a pasture. You are in awe of the countryside and the animals, a rare spectacle for a city boy like yourself. But you wonder why your dad would do this. He then asks you:
" What would you like for your birthday, son? "
A. Model plane.
B. BB Gun.
C. Swiss-Army Knife.

"I would like a BB gun for my birthday, dad."
" DAD!?!?? NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN! *your father slaps you multiples times, and gives a few backhand slaps* OFF TO HITLER YOUTH! YOU UNDISCIPLINED PIECE OF SHEIB! "

-----

You are now a young man in the 6th Army Group of the Wehrmacht. You like to think you're a seasoned soldier, having participated in 5 battles, but in truth you have yet to really be in the heat of an intense combat. But it doesn't matter to you. You are not the survivor or the sharpest knife, but you are a Soldier. And that is something of high virtue to you.

Your monologue is cut when your squad's half-track stops.

" This is our stop, gentlemen. " Your squad's commander says. " We have to report to the FOB. "

The constant crackle of the flak guns begins to burn into your ears. You can smell the blood and gunpowder in the air. Your boots touch the ground, and you could bet your life that this is the coldest point on the planet. It is Stalingrad in the Winter of 1942, and it is a bleak situation.

" C'mon ladies! Quit acting like this weather is anything that can stop us. " Your commander says.

A. Follow your squad to the FOB.
B. Linger at the half-track.
C. Study your surroundings.

You look around.
A suburb surrounds the area, but the warfare has turned the area into a barren tundra filled with ruins.
You see a few convoys going down different roads.

" Soldier! Does this look like the scenic route?! "

A. Follow your squad to the FOB.
B. Linger at the half-track.

You decide to stay for a minute. The combat is supposed to be visceral here. Entire companies disappear at a time in the streets and warehouses.

"Get over here soldier!"

You decide to follow your commander.

As you enter the FOB, you immediately take notice of a few different squads doing briefings, you overhear.

A. Join a squad on a search and rescue mission.
B. Join a squad on an attack on an enemy rail line.
C. Join a squad on an attack on an enemy warehouse.
D. Keep following your squad commander.

You walk over to the Warehouse squad.
" We're going to ambush their position and relieve the a pinned down platoon. We have reason to believe the Soviets have a munitions, weapons and supply cache. Securing that cache is our Primary Objective. If we're lucky, we'll be able to save that platoon. "

You consider this operation.

A. Join squad on a search and rescue mission.
B. Join squad on an attack on an enemy rail line.
C. Keep following your squad commander.
D. Join this operation.

You follow your Squad Commander.

"Where have you been Corporal? Dammit, I'll just repeat the briefing." You really pissed him off this time.
"Okay boys, we're going to hit a Soviet company in this suburb (he points to a point on a map of Stalingrad on a table). Obviously, we don't have the manpower to knock him down, there being only 12 of us. However, our job is to hold them in place while a motorized platoon moves in and wipes them out. If we can knock out this company, we can safely move some supplies and reinforcements to our boys on the front lines. "

A. Join squad on a search and rescue mission.
B. Join squad on an attack on an enemy rail line.
C. Join the warehouse attack operation.
D. Join your Squad on this operation.

You decide this is where you're most needed.
You and your squad jump into a large truck as you drive away.

------

The car stops.
" Here we are, men. " Your Commander says.
You and your squad exit the car. You watch as it drives away.
" Check yourselves men, this is gonna be the last time we get a chance to know what we have, and this may be the last moment of your life where your finger isn't on the trigger. "
*you decide to take this opportunity to give yourself a once-over*

A. Continue on to the mission.

(this is an opportunity to gather your bearings or check your inventory in a non-firefight situation)

You decide to check your munitions and weapons to know what you're bringing into the firefight.

INVENTORY

Karabiner 98 Kurz (Kar-98k for now on) 50 Rounds (10 Magazines)
Utility Knife
Half-Filled Canteen (water)
Field Ration

You know you're going to be in the fight for a good while, but your gun certainly won't hold up in close quarters.
Luckily, you do have the supplies to keep yourself well in case the fight drags on.

A. Continue on to the mission.

(still an opportunity to gather your bearings)

Asks the commander.

A. "It's been an honor serving with you men."
B. "Let's fuck up some russkis."
