First, recreate those two templates' boards (using custom distribution*).
Then, post the custom template to the forum, with a list of all your suggested pick options as well as the picks of the players from the original games.
I'll be happy to do this, however this has its limits, in particular it can be very effective at illustrating a point about specific strategies, but when properly assessing picking strategies often there are too many strategies to compare it too to rely on custom distributions. I like the Rubik's pick idea since that was the one unexplored area and it'd be worth custom distribution. It'd be nice if you'd join for commentary once.
but they were in fact merely (1) strategically better most of the time but not all of the time
That literally means better in warlight terms. Picks that I consider better/worse do not mean they are better 100% of the time. On that particular map I went to great lengths to explain why in particular west russia would be superior to central russia not only in terms of positioning, but most importantly, in terms of picking strategies. Not being susceptible to caucasus or southeast asia counter so easily, better synergy if you pick 3/4 in russia (which you should). The argument that central russia might be better if she has no intel begs the question why does she have no intel to begin with, there are options to play 3/4 in russia to gain intel? Not only that we discussed how the positioning of west russia vs central russia is different from positioning antarctica vs australia because of how specific the position is. Also when it comes to countering in pakistan I disagree with the assessment if opponent picks central russia I get pakistan, in reality central russia will never be picked sooner than with 2nd pick and very often it'll be picked 4th or later, so I'd say it seems likely you'd get central russia + pakistan which you'd want to avoid.
All in all I'm fine with custom scenarios to back up what I say, however I wouldn't use it on all suggestions, at the very least we'd need some sort of discussion to trim down the possibilities. So again I'm inviting you to join us next time.
