Having a custom distribution template of that board to play out some of these possible picking strategies would be interesting, especially if I don't have to play and other players exhaust all possible top picking strategies and then post the game links here for lazy players to watch.

First, recreate those two templates' boards (using custom distribution*).

Then, post the custom template to the forum, with a list of all your suggested pick options as well as the picks of the players from the original games.

I'll be happy to do this, however this has its limits, in particular it can be very effective at illustrating a point about specific strategies, but when properly assessing picking strategies often there are too many strategies to compare it too to rely on custom distributions. I like the Rubik's pick idea since that was the one unexplored area and it'd be worth custom distribution. It'd be nice if you'd join for commentary once.

but they were in fact merely (1) strategically better most of the time but not all of the time

That literally means better in warlight terms. Picks that I consider better/worse do not mean they are better 100% of the time. On that particular map I went to great lengths to explain why in particular west russia would be superior to central russia not only in terms of positioning, but most importantly, in terms of picking strategies. Not being susceptible to caucasus or southeast asia counter so easily, better synergy if you pick 3/4 in russia (which you should). The argument that central russia might be better if she has no intel begs the question why does she have no intel to begin with, there are options to play 3/4 in russia to gain intel? Not only that we discussed how the positioning of west russia vs central russia is different from positioning antarctica vs australia because of how specific the position is. Also when it comes to countering in pakistan I disagree with the assessment if opponent picks central russia I get pakistan, in reality central russia will never be picked sooner than with 2nd pick and very often it'll be picked 4th or later, so I'd say it seems likely you'd get central russia + pakistan which you'd want to avoid.

All in all I'm fine with custom scenarios to back up what I say, however I wouldn't use it on all suggestions, at the very least we'd need some sort of discussion to trim down the possibilities. So again I'm inviting you to join us next time.

Or, before the broadcast, the hosts could (1) pick a game to analyze, (2) create the custom distribution, and (3) play the game against another top player. Then, when the broadcast happens, you could illustrate your ideas by showing your two best preferred picking strategies in your recreated/example game. And instead of listeners taking your word for the presumed superiority of your ideas, we could see your picks and have a more objective manner of judging your theoretical analysis.

THIS. Could be even more than just one game, definitely more fun than talking alone.

Post the custom template to the forum, with a list of all your suggested pick options as well as the picks of the players from the original games.

    Finally,
other players can create games on those same boards. Players can try your suggested picks, modify them, or try out their own ideas.

I agree with most, but disagree slightly with the bold parts. I do think it's better when each consecutive game on the same board is played by the players that already know well how and why the game played out in previous runs, which usually mean players that played previous games (most convenient way). If you just gather some people to play this board, you will get a lot of repeated scenarios, sometimes different in details only. Sure, more people may mean more different ideas in total, but achieving similar analysis depth will take much more games and will be way more "messier".

How many games you expect you would have to play to explore this certain board well enough? When I did that with some people in the past, I don't think I ever played more than 5 games, granted we actually discussed possible variations to the strategy used in given instance, compared to previous tries etc. I do agree talking alone is not enough, but it is necessary to avoid having too many games.

"""

(3) Summer picks Red Russia in conjunction with Pakistan and late -- thus, it should not be judged solely in terms of which is better, Red or Orange Russia. To me, it being picked in conjunction with Pakistan demonstrates Summer's strategic intent: she wants Pakistan, not Russia. The Russia pick is a feint; the Pakistan pick is the haymaker: If she ends up with Pakistan and not Red Russia, she can assume (based on your positional advantage preference, see below) that not only was Red Russia picked, but both Russias were picked:

(a) Positional Preference: Orange before Red.
(b) Enemy picks Red, I get Pakistan.
(c) Therefore: Assume Orange was picked too.

In this scenario, if Summer's logic is one of countering (and not positioning in Russia), she would likely use Pakistan to counter both Russias via Georgia in three turns (three turns instead of two, since her 1-2 picks don't allow her to do it in two turns). Or, she can assume that Red Russia will be taken first (despite the enemy's possible reluctance, due to the Cauc counter). In this case, Summer can move to Xinjiang on Turn 1 and enter Red Russia on Turn 2. She can do this on the cheap (if extras in W Africa are ideal, she can try two 3v2s in Africa and a 3-4vX in Russia). Or, she can plan to take W Africa in three turns, and hit Red Russia with at least 5 (an early attack ensures she is in Russia; a later attack risks a 5v3, if the enemy has ideal extras). Note: if the enemy has both Russias, W Africa is most likely safe, and the enemy is most likely in Australia.

This is what I saw when I saw her picks. She is not stupid or lazy. She is planning something. And it sometimes works. I've lost to lesser players in RT open game 1v1s on this Pakistan counter.
"""

This was exactly my thought when i saw her picks. I wouldn't have done it myself, but her picks seemed to indicate she was trying something clever. It's just one of those things you could try to pull when you play against another top player and are looking for an edge.
