Hello

I made a very weird survey, that will lead you to explore some very dark places in your brain. It is just a thought-experiment of course, none of the questions have real life applications, and this is not warlight related. In the survey i ask you to make very though choices, life and death choices (more like death or death choices actually :) ).
If you are depressive, don't take the survey. The survey is anonymous, it will take from 5 to 10 min depending on how much thought you want to put into the questions.

There is a chance that the display will be terrible depending on the size of your screen, so if it is, leave a comment and i'll just post the printscreen here for clarification.
If you have any comment or remarks that you'd want to make, go ahead.

Have fun

edit: the display problems you might have will actually be due to your browser, i made the survey with google chrome, i don't know if it will display correctly with other browsers.

edit:
The idea for the first 7 questions comes from a video i saw a while back
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUsGDVOCLVQ (to be watched after taking the survey)

Well, I took the survey, and I don't think my results are consistent with any sort of commonly accepted theology, but I answered honestly. I hope I didn't screw up your numbers. XD

well this is a pretty bias test for me since i would kill many adults to save just one young girl.

I stlightly changed question 7 to add better clarity, since the answers were kinda weird, and one was inconsistent with the question 8.

How is it biased? I hesitated to add a question with like 100vs1 or 1000vs1, but i figured that would not add much information from the 10vs1 question.

edit: crap, i didn't put the 10vs1 question, i stoped at 5vs1

Sorry for the 9 peoples that have taken the time to answer the survey, but i had to clear the answers because some of the questions were not clear enough i think. I also added 1 question. I will leave the survey as it is from now on. If you have already took the survey, could you do it again please?

edit: tipo

A perfectly reasonable choice. I don't think there is any unreasonable choices anyway. The thing is, whatever your choice, innocent people are going to end up dead/raped anyway.

Only to entertain my intellectual curiosity and that of others who may find the thought-experiment interesting. I have thought about these questions for a few days, and to be honest and still can't come up with a definitive answer for some question. So i thought a survey would be interesting.

The Push the stranger question got a very balanced answer, which is interesting.

Never flip the switch or push the poor stranger. Anyone who is pissing about on a live train track deserves whatever consequences may fall on them, or whoever is their guardian. Getting my hands dirty for their sake isn't my responsibility

A better one is this. Thought of it just now:

You are a lifeguard and you receive an emergency call during a storm to save passangers on board a fishing boat. There are 10 members on board of the fishing boat, just enough for your helicopter to carry. So you rush to your helicopter to rescue the passengers of the fishing boat that's about to capsize from the storm and sea waves. However, just as you start to gain height, you notice some smoke in the distance. You then receive a call from your wife. She tells you that an electric line from a nearby pylon became damaged during the storm and fell on the house, causing the upstairs and eventually the rest of the house to catch fire while she was taking an afternoon nap. She's trapped in the upstairs bedroom with no way out. The phone line then cuts off, and you can't get through again.

You can see the fire in the distance consuming the house, but you know that 20 miles into the sea, there are 10 people in need of your services. If you head for your wife, the fishermen on the ship are bound to sink into the stormy sea where they are doomed. However, if you choose to save the fishermen, the fire will have totally engulfed the house by the time your helicopter makes a return trip.

Who will you save?

i call the firefighters :) what could a lifeguard do anyway to save his wife anyway?
No seriously i have no idea how to answer that, but this is another type of question than those of the survey, because you have an emotional attachment to your wife, whereas you have no emotional attachement to any of the characters in the survey

There's always a cop-out answer!

If you haven't got it already, i highly recommend the book: 'The pig that wants to be eaten' by julian baggini. It has about 100 of these kind of thought experiments, though much better and more varied.

thanks to the 17 participant to the survey so far. The results are very interesting, surprising even sometimes.
You can follow the results here:

Anybody had problems to read the questions? (on some browsers, the 9th question gets cutoff for me). Was the questions clear enough to understand?
