European atrocities in African colonies.: 8/13/2015 00:13:31

(I will add one subject for each colonial nation in Africa)

Britain contained the Kikuyu in concentration camps, and "enclosed villages" , while suspending personal liberties and was described to be comparable to conditions in Nazi concentration camps.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herero_and_Namaqua_Genocide#Genocide

Colonial Germany stomped a revolt by Herero and attempted to exterminate all Herero , captured men would be executed and captured women and children were to be driven to the desert to die of thirst and starvation. The last remnants of the Herero were placed in concentration camps where forced labour, hangings , shootings and beatings took place.
There are hundreds of them, mostly women and children and a few old men ... when they fall they are sjamboked by the soldiers in charge of the gang, with full force, until they get up ... On one occasion I saw a woman carrying a child of under a year old slung at her back, and with a heavy sack of grain on her head ... she fell. The corporal sjamboked her for certainly more than four minutes and sjamboked the baby as well ... the woman struggled slowly to her feet, and went on with her load. She did not utter a sound the whole time, but the baby cried very hard

The dead were often shipped to Germany to be tested on, and bi-racial children were also tested on.

The heads of enemy soldiers impaled on roadside trees. Hundreds of prisoners tortured, killed and dumped in mass graves. Napalm dropped on jungles where guerrillas sheltered, and grass-hut villages torched with cigarette lighters

Portugal committed what can only be described as awful warcrimes in a area it had subjugated for years.

Belgian king Leopold II held the Congo as a personal piece of land.

Failure to meet the rubber collection quotas was punishable by death. Meanwhile, the Force Publique were required to provide a hand of their victims as proof when they had shot and killed someone, as it was believed that they would otherwise use the munitions (imported from Europe at considerable cost) for hunting.[16] As a consequence, the rubber quotas were in part paid off in chopped-off hands. Sometimes the hands were collected by the soldiers of the Force Publique, sometimes by the villages themselves. There were even small wars where villages attacked neighbouring villages to gather hands, since their rubber quotas were too unrealistic to fill. A Catholic priest quotes a man, Tswambe, speaking of the hated state official Léon Fiévez, who ran a district along the river 500 kilometres (300 mi) north of Stanley Pool

Italy in it's invasion of Ethiopia in 1935 executed prisoners without trial , used gas, and bombed Red Cross hospitals.

Algerian prisoners during the battle of Algeirs were thrown out to sea by the French via boat and helicopter.
Throughout the war thousands of people were tortured, put in camps and the end to this was described as being set free (if you could afford it), more internment or disappearance.

Yeah, we get it, Colonizing Africa was bad. But this was a long time ago, and Africa is free now. They got their freedom. So why are we still bitching. And don't give me that "Those who don't learn history are doomed to repeat it" because we all know this lesson. If you're gonna give some shit speech about how the same needs to happen to Europe, you should go join the Nazis or some other bat-shit-crazy group.

If there's some good reason behind this, I apologize, but I've seen enough of shit like this.

Well, I don't know what OP's reasoning behind this thread is, but I will say this. The fact that something happened a long time ago never seems to stop people from harping on all the bad things that the United States did during the 20th century.

It also never stops certain people from bringing up the Crusades during every single debate regarding religion.

Why do the Jews still "bitch" about the holocaust then? Why do Armenians still "bitch" about the Armenian genocide then?

And this was a thread I made to do a little educating on a subject that I think is under represented , then you come and start yelling about how I want to execute and enslave Europeans.

Ack you are right,I forgot about Belgium. They did some of the worst (enslavement of the Congolese and the stripping of the Congo's natural resources) (and this thread was specifically about European atrocities)

Why is trophy head a thing ?

It smells a lot. It is not hunting; your job as a soldier is to kill most of the time. It is not impressive.

You desecrate the dead by mutilating them.
In human culture, mutilating the living with torture is "normal" and using cruel traps on animals for hunting is also accepted strangely.

Many cultures believe that mutilation will prevent the soul from going to the afterlife.

Torture was considered barbarian by some or most Romans.

Why can't they just bury the dead as normal beings ?
Making great pains to others is sadism, a psychological disease.

The custom of decimation in Romans is more sane than torture. If an army retreated during the battle, one tenth of the soldiers were randomly killed.

Actually the Romans had very little war attrocities.

Only things I can think of are maybe razing Carthage to the ground and their affairs with Judea and Jerusalem.

Sure why not. (That'd be spamming, so I probably won't)
And just because it was common place does not mean it is right and it does not mean it should be forgotten.

Comodus Despite being a complete coward, he adored gladiatorial combat and would have cripples and undesirables rounded up and lashed together into ungainly ‘giants’ for him to slay in the coliseum.you know those things called gladiators that fought to the death for entertainment ?

Caligula’s favourite torture/execution method involved fileting the condemned with a saw-blade from spine, to crotch, to chest. Excess blood in the brain prevented unconsciousness and death could take hours. As a pastime between executions, Caligula also enjoyed chewing up the testicles of his victims - while still alive, of course.

The Roman historian Tacitus notes that even prepubescent boys were raped en masse by Roman officers during the Revolt of Batavi. So yes genghis these are some evidence of many that the Romans committed war crimes and was an appalling civilisation

From the sack of Ancient Carthage after the Third Punic War, and the annihilation of Ilurgia, to the Gallic genocides, and the relentless persecution of ethnic Jews - the Romans responded to any hint of rebellion from perceived ‘inferiors’ with utter liquidation.By the fall of the Empire, the Romans had slaughtered around 8 million people, a staggering number considering the inefficiency of ancient war technologies. Galgacus, a Caledonian chief, summarised Roman military strategy and imperial subjugation, when he said, ‘Where they make a desert, they call it peace.’
