A democracy has the people make decisions directly which makes it ineffective because you must gather the opinion of the entire populace to make a decision while a democratic republic exists with government officials being elected to make decisions

They're the same? What Oxford says:

- A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representative.

- A state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.


A democracy is suppose to be elected representatives that do what the people want

A republic is elected representatives that do what they believe is best for the people.
