OnlyThePie Level 54 Report	I suggest choosing a region who's history interests you, and then selecting a timeperiod. let it be noted that from about 400 AD to 1000 AD, it's almost impossible to find fully detailed reference maps.

TBest Level 60 Report	^Click that help tab, and you will find a link showing you how. I would not recommend a first map of 600 territories. Instead fool around a bit and make a small map, to see how mapmaking works.

Gaul, the World in the year 950 and the Old World all fit this, but something like the Empire of Charles V or the Napoleonic Empire may not be so good when, at least for diplomacy games, which is normally what historical maps are used for.
