I've been working on a symmetrical map with some inspiration from Yin & Yang, designed to be played 1v1.

Link: https://www.warlight.net/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=49106

So far, the biggest issues I've had are with creativity in naming. I've named the territories and bonuses by their cardinal directions/locations (i.e. "North West", "Center", "West Isle", "South Bank", "North Mainland", "Far East", etc).

I would appreciate any ideas/suggestions, as well as anyone willing to help test. (I've already tested a couple times, all the territories link).

Thanks in advance for any help.

The map is now public. I am no longer looking for major suggestions (except maybe distribution modes), but if anyone sees a problem with the map please let me know so I can update it.

There is no map named symmetry so far in Warlight. My suggestion for you map would be to add more connections between the 2 sides. As it is right now, if each player stars on a side, the one who gets the center first would win.

almosttricky, thanks for the reply.

I'll consider adding extra connections between the two sides. I had wanted the center to be the most important territory, but if it would ruin the map's strategic value...

Thanks for the info on the map name.

Just for future information, SNinja is his clan. He is almosttricky, and if I remember right, his name is like that because SNinja was a clan before they officially bought a clan, so their members had <SNinja> in front of their names to identify them as clan members. Generally, if there's a word in between symbols at the beginning of somebody's name, it'll be their clan.

Good luck with this map and any future maps you make.

Many a super bonus for each side to encourage claiming the entire fish?

Good to know. :)

I've thought about that...might be a good idea.

To naming Territories:

As there isn't really anything to go off of (as it isn't a real world/fantasy map) I would either make silly names (like making each territory a different fish) or you can just leave it as it is, there is nothing wrong with doing that (you won't get any creativity points though).

I didn't see your first map preview but if you added the two territories to the center defiantly helps with the balancing. (and the extra links between the sides) when it comes out i'll try to make an interesting template on it.

The territories were already there, but only connected to the center and one side of the map. I added the curved territory connections later.

Thanks for the support!

I like the update to the map, it makes it more playable. Not a bad map, especially if it's your 1st one!

Okay, I think I'm about ready to make it public. There are a couple things I need to know about first.

1. Is it possible to add future updates to the map after it's made public?

2. How to write a good map description? There's not much to say about it...so far I have this:
"Simplistic and symmetrical, with some inspiration from Yin & Yang. Designed to be played 1v1."

Is such a small description okay?

Update: Forget I asked; I found out about updates on the wiki and have an idea for the map description. Also, a strikeout formatting option would be nice.

Update: Fixed bonus borders overlapping. Also simplified some of the SVG code. Updated link.

If the inspiration is from yin-yang, then the naming scheme should be pretty easy: Name each pair of symmetric territories with pairs of words which are yin-yang opposites, like light & dark, hard & soft, etc. Look up yin-yang on google and I bet you'll find lots of pages listing all sorts of word pairs like that. Bonus points if you pair them consistent with their yin/yang interpretations.

Thanks for the suggestion, but really the map doesn't have much to do with Yin & Yang. It was originally inspired by it, but more resembles 2 fish now (don't ask why or how, I don't even know). If the map more closely resembled Yin & Yang than it does, I would use your idea.
