BanaNa Thoughts #2 Strategic League for RP Clans: 10/28/2015 21:43:50

After posting my first “BanaNa Thoughts” thread ( https://www.warlight.net/Forum/116154-banana-thoughts-1-closet-strategic-rpers ) I decided I wanted to expand on to the point I made about “Closet Strategic Roleplayers” and a possible strategic league for rp clans. That is because they are a symptom of a larger issue. Pompous rp clan leaders. My dear readers will surely who I’m referring to. I speak of the imperial emperors, admiral-generals, and supreme chancellors of warlight. Elaborate government hierarchies, intricate ranks, and pointless titles. Useless high senates, purposeless chambers of commerce, and unavailing clan “constitutions”. But here is my point, I don’t mind. Your heard right my dear readers I really don’t mind that these conceited and puffed up self-important clan leaders set up systems of governance on warlight. It is their clan, they may do as they wish, there is no rule against being puffed up. However I do have one urge, one request, one suggestion: if you are going to play nations-sim, please at least improve the experience of the closet strategic roleplayers of your clan.

I suggest the various rp clans of warlight (let’s say 15 for example) hold a meeting or convention and set up (they are superb at setting things up my dear readers) a regular series of large tournaments where strategic roleplayers within their clans could compete against other roleplayers in a less-competitive setting. The templates used for the tournament could be decided by the admiral-generals, supreme councils or whoever is sent as the delegate and spokesperson of each clan. Now lets say for example, things go smoothly and the 15 clans agree to three tournaments (one 1v1 ME, one 2v2 RoR, and one 3v3Euro for example) and a designated person hosts the three tournaments without a hitch. The clan leaders or representatives then invite members of their respective clans and after the tournaments are done another chat conference will be set up to discuss the next 3 tournaments, so on and the cycle continues. A less competitive clan league for rp clans, if you will.

The strategic RPers can still join any of the many leagues that are already run... I have a feeling that even if the strategic league was created, it would be a logistical nightmare and shut down within 3 seasons.

About RP clans being more supportive of their strategic members: Absolutely I think they should. If you want a reason why, look at the old USW clan. That clan was very much an RP clan, but Bossss managed to get #1 on the 1v1 ladder multiple times. However, eventually, conversation in the clan forums dwindled until it was pretty much just pip gk, Dr Skullex, and Skylimit chiming in on every conversation, while other players like me would respond once in a while. After a while, SkyLimit appeared to become inactive. Then, pip gk left the clan, and if I remember right, he said he left to work on his strategic play, as he felt like USW wasn't providing anything in that aspect (he was completely right). After he left, with SkyLimit inactive, the clan forums became a desolate wasteland. No one talked on the forums, because there was nothing to talk about. Keep in mind that this clan had 60 some members at the time. Slowly, Skullex began to stop posting, then there were a few threads meant to gauge who was inactive, each of which had fewer than 10 responses iirc. The clan that had once been 5th in total points had become practically nothing. I left for the Ohms eventually because USW had literally nothing to offer, and I've enjoyed my time here so far. What's the moral of this story? The most dedicated players in your clan often develop an interest in competitive, strategic play. If you don't provide that at all, they might leave, and when your most dedicated players leave, it can send the entire clan crashing down with it. Skylimit was only inactive for around 6-8 months, but after pip left, the clan was done.

Here is USW now: https://www.warlight.net/Clans/?ID=53

Only 11/32 of them are not listed as "Retired", and the current president hasn't been online for 140 days. The fall of this clan, which once was around 5th on the clan list, was almost entirely because of the lack of Strategic development offered, and the fact that the clan leader stopped forcing activity by making tournaments and posting on the forums. SkyLimit was so confident in the clan, he made us a website, which I can't remember atm. Provide Strategic development options for your players, or it could be the end for your clan.

Pip (as he is now known) is still active. On the off chance that he sees this, PM me if I remembered any of this incorrectly.

CSL already exists and should totally be expanded into this (it's basically a rotating 1v1 ladder for players who want to improve).

I've discussed this with other RP clan leaders, and the first thoughts so far, are to make an RP Clan League, as opposed to a ladder.

A.D. will soon have its own ladders, I'm working on a few things.

No; 2 separate 1 ag 1 (but might be expanded in future).

The idea was pretty good, Ox mentioned it in a RP clans' chatroom.

I'd say it should be much smaller (2 divisions at best) considering there are less clan participating in it. The most important thing is that we need someone that would take all the time to organise that, just like the common clan league's organisers do.

We'd be very lucky to get 2 divisions. 1 larger division, like the original clan league is more likely, I think. I'd be happy arranging things like JSA once would, and I'm interested to see if there would be any people helping out.

if people go forward with this, i can at least take up a small amount of workload. being a strategic player who used to be in an RP clan, i have an interest in this happening.

im kind of on the fence about an RP clan trying to retain a strategic player when they might be better off in a different clan, but i think this would be a great outlet for people that like to play both types of games or want to stay in their clan but get involved with more strategic games.
