Just like the title sayes without joining a clan how does one start to get an enjoyment from diplomacy games...
I've only ever played one and it was Ok but do you have any RP tips. A good diplomacy game is all about how good you role play Right? (or am missing something)
Also I hear variety is good for instance one game your'll act like a powercrazy loon and the next yourll act like a peacemaker of follow a certain ideology.
Basically other than stuff I've listed what else makes a good diplo? (or is what I listed all rubbish)

That depends on how you enjoy it. Diplomacies are more personal. If you enjoy being a warmonger and a general asshole, do so, but others might not like it. If you enjoy being neutral, try doing so. Etc..
Generally, a good diplomacy would be with a minimal amount of boots/surrenders and NO RULE BREAKERS (seriously, I'm tired of them ^^). RP is optional, but it makes games more fun. Or, if you play an ultra-RP diplomacy, it can be centered around RP.

Don't break rules, and have fun, that's the whole point of a Diplo. I would say play it how you like (staying in the rules) but so long as you play honestly then I feel personally like it's ok. For example, if you want to warmonger, right from the start talk about being a powerful force that will take over the world and you will fight with anyone anytime, etc, etc. Then I don't see a problem with it :)
Whether a Diplo is good or not depends entirely on who you're playing with, I suggest joining diplos that go up, talking to people helps a lot, blacklist players you don't like as you go, get to make friends who play Diplos you enjoy, and go from there, that's how I do it, and I'm not even in a clan :)

Sounds great I really will have to start playing them more.
One more question I guess multiday diplos are better or is it just a matter of personal preference.

People will get booted a lot more in real time diplo's as they take a while to fill up so most people go away and aren't there when they start.

Being a warmonger is always one of the worst things to do since players will willingly destroy you.
Not true at all. For some reason too many people support warmongers at all costs.. even when they have no chance to win.
I dont fucking know why but everyone loves warmongers .-.
I have played many diplos and the warmongers always win becuase of popularity...

Just create one on a good template, put it up on multi-day, and you'll start getting invites from the other players. Diplo players generally just invite people they know/like b/c of how the Friend List mechanism works on WL.

Generally warmongers are good enough at getting allies before starting fights, so everyone is scared of what looks like a huge alliance that's willing to fight.

The trick is to make strong allies early on, and then to justify your wars so that people agree with you.
In my experience diplos should end by the highest level'd remaining allies surrendering to the lowest level'd.

(I still maintain that the biggest issue with "diplomacy" games is that no one wants to explain exactly how the games are run. In every game I've played, there have been players who assume it's a competitive game and others who do not, players who think the roleplay is important, and players who have no interest in the roleplay at all, and so forth.)
(If you are hosting a "diplo" game, do everyone a favour and spell it out. Everyone *assumes* that everyone else knows what a "diplo" is, but, in reality, everyone has a different idea. There is no "standard" diplomacy game; only a dozen or so different understandings of "how it should be played", and no communication between the groups.)
If you're playing in one, don't be shy: ask. Particularly the creator should be unafraid to explain what kind of game you're getting into, and how it should be played "optimally".
As for the "aggressive" players doing really well, one thing I've noticed is that a lot of Diplomacy games spend a lot of time being - frankly - incredibly boring. Dozens of turns with nothing happening for the majority of players, stuff like that. So players who are aggressive and actually make things happen are valued for making the game *fun*.
Given the choice between sitting there and doing nothing, or engaging in some kind of exciting war... many players take the safe choice and keep the peace. But many others crack sooner or later out of boredom and join in, even if it's not to their advantage strategically.

I think what makes diplos so boring a lot of the time is when people are auto-assigned every territory, or claims must be respected. Then there is no conflict between players except if one is a PE, so these games need PEs to make them interesting. When claims don't have to be respected, and there are territories to take, two people start a war by claiming the same territory. Then, the game is more interesting, and no one gets blacklisted.

That's certainly wrong. I mean, why would people still join them? I understand a big group of players doesn't find it enjoyable, but saying "nobody" is a big overstatement.
You just have to play with the right people... because there are some guys like in Kilos' post - simply being jerks ^^

Diplomacy games are fun, all my games (98%) are actually a diplomacy one. Diplomacy is better with rp. Let say we have a PE, I'll treat him as ISIS. Make as many as conflicts, even the tiniest so it would be fun to play. In many games, a conflict would be a World War, but only end there. It should be a cycle instead of a one conflict, so it would be endless or end in 40-50 turns. I see boot as a main problem as once missing 10 players, the game would be dead and peoples start saying about unfair and things like landgrabbing. So diplo is fun if all players are actually participating on it.
