Prabster Realm vs Spike, so its a clan battle. Lets see how they did.

Prab goes 1 in CA, not bad, 2 in SEA, also not so bad, 3 Afghanistan for the FTB, 4 in EC for the counter, 5 in Caucasus just for the extra counter, 6 in WR for the safe pick, and just to avoid the random, 7 in Ant.

Spike goes for the Triple in SEA, 4 Ant, 5 WA, 6 South Africa, and again, 7 in North Africa.

Turn 1: Prab is getting closer to completing his bonus, and attacks Mexico with 6. Spike tries to complete SEA and EC at the same time.

Turn 2: Prab, likely thinking it was Straight Round, attacks with 3v2s to try to complete CA, and fails. Always remember to check the settings kids! Spike also fails SEA on a 3v2, then Prab taps it with a 1, then a 7. So he thinks it is SR, and attacks with 7, interesting.

Turn 3: Spike is getting closer to finishing East China, and Prab completes Central America with a 2v1.

Turn 4: Finally, Spike completes East China, but it is too late, Prab has the army advantage and is coming towards him.

Turn 5: Prab now borders East China, preparing to fire at it.

Turn 6: Seeing his defeat, Spike retreats, and attacks Indonesia. With those armies, he could have defended the attack on East China, but he needed to run away.

Turn 7: Spike surrenders.

The title is sarcasm. Prabs picks were much better but they both need to improve their play.

Ben, I want to know your motives here. This was in no way the best game, but also in no way a generally bad game. You didn't even try to make it funny, like Lolowut did with his 2v2 review. The outcome? A few confused people, an example of your sub-par game analysis (that seemed to go completely against the "sarcastic" title), the handful of people that got it, but didn't find it funny, and Prab coming out of the situation in better light than you.

Well for one I expected Prab to respond in which I would give him a real analysis of what he did right/wrong. This thread was supposed to be a mix of sarcasm and helpfulness.

Here are some basic tips Prab:
1. In Strategic 1v1, always, always, always pick 6. There is no exception to this rule, and never will be. Why? Each player gets 3 picks, and 3+3=6.
2. As a general rule in Strategic 1v1, only combo 2 or 3 with your first pick, but not both.
3. If you are trying to complete a bonus in WR neutrals of 2, attack with 4, not 3.
4. Look at the top 5 players on the ladders games, and think why they did what they did.

Wrong. There is an exception. Blowfly gets a pass on this rule :)

just looking at it isn't very helpful. you have to think beforehand: what would I pick? what would be my orders with the picks i get or one of them got? what would i do in that Situation and then you watch the game turn for turn asking yourself every turn what you'd do.

^ people do something similar with chess too, comparing their decisions to grandmasters. here, you would need to go through the game, starting with picks, 1 turn at a time. Write/type/record what you would have done, then watch the turn, and compare to what the actual player did. This can help you see the differences in priorities, expansion patterns, their overall strategy, key areas to reach for - general play style differences between you and the player you observe. A couple of notes about this though:

1. you have to make sure you don't look ahead to later turns before analyzing the current turn. it will influence your thinking. you need to get a handle on your style first so you can find flaws to fix.

2. This does not really help as much with calculation, in terms of income, and such. That, just requires practice trying to outwit your opponent, trying to find as much information about them each turn, using the history. (unless there is a better method and I'm an idiot!)

3. this is a slow way to improve, but it should help. don't rush things out, take it slow. the closer you find yourself predicting their moves, the better, time is NOT an issue, really.

also, there should be a way to see the game from one player's perspective. if you want to try and predict income +positioning as well, not just where to deploy troops and when/where to attack, then you will want to try it from one player's perspective as well. I don't suggest starting from this step, myself.

disclaimer: I suck at 1v1 , compared to anyone with real business giving advice.

Benji your thread is a shame really, do you think mocking someone's way of playing is good? Shame on you.
