20 templates by a fast count. In order to read all descriptions etc. you *must* give each template a test time of ~30 min at least.

So that would be 10 hours total. I would imagine that this is the problem.

I think that top 3-5 would have been better, because some templates, because then there isn't as much controversy.

I have yet to understand why your symmetrical template that hardly has a picking phase, could be considered strategic, by warlight definitions, Sure, it is strategic in the sense that a perfect strategy wins 100% of the time, but that is not good.

So let me get this straight. The contest was about not playing rehashed ideas from Sze/Gui, and the runner up is a Gui map with a rehash of a current popular template with Sze's idea (limited full dist)? WTF is that? The rules say a rehash will be heavily penalized. I guess creativity means nothing in this thing afterall.

Wow, I had really high hopes for this thing too. I guess I should have just submitted my Lim Full Dist on Great Lakes instead of thinking outside the box.

Not to mention mine was rated below a template called "Pure Luck". What a joke. I bet you guys did not even play mine at all. You voted a %100 luck template higher than mine...amazing work Sze

I also feel deeply embarrassed fir what has heppend here. My template was "analysed" without reading it's rules with comments like " oh look, +16 card and spy card ... strange". Next time you create such contest please inform people upront that you are too lazy to analyse (understand?) complex templates. In my opinion this could be compared to guy who tried to chop down tree with a pistol and after few minutes come to conclusion that "this is a dumbest axe he ever used".

This situation is really strange since I have provided long explanation for this template in this thread (page 4) as well as it's short version in game description. There is also attached example of the game...

Once again I ask to scrap my name from the results of this pitifull and arrogant "contest".

It was rigged from the start, you could tell from the way they were so quickly dismissing templates "I don't get it, I wouldn't play it, it's terrible."

The only thing that annoys me is we are trying to help the community, I don't give a shit about the coins, I just wanted to introduce something new, instead of the normal boring reused crap. But it seems this lot can't get their head around simple new concepts.

I'm the only person to have entered a symmentrical no base income game and one of only 2 with army-cap and they treated it like a piece of shit, yet I'd been working on the balance of that for months, they didn't even actually try it, they "decided on a draw" after a few turns, they hadn't even met in battle yet.

Gah, I don't know why I bother, the whole thing was a farse. They should have at least tried out the templates in a game with the creators first, surely?

If all they wanted was re-hashed old templates then they should have said. From now on I'm keeping my templates to myself and my friends, screw you guys. I've deleted my template from this forum. Don't worry no need to say "Good, it was crap anyway!" cos I already know that's what you're going to say.

I could easily have generated an army-cap map on one of many boring old recycled maps instead, but to be honest, I'm glad I didn't.

Hey guys i'm sorry if some of you are disappointed now. I rewarded creativity in my ratings, but you need to agree that the winner templates are very well tought trough and enjoyable. We had to rank a lot of templates in a short time so please forgive us if we didn't realize what was behind your template

I put a lot of thought into my template thank you very much! I played around 20 test games, and changed the template around 10 times. Even the map is different. I understand the troubles and complaints completely.

I did not say the winning templates were not good. But if you are not going to play them, the whole idea is a waste. And how can %100 luck be more strategic than 0 base income local deployment where you have to be VERY strategic with your picks

ChrisCMU, I haven't tried your template, but from your post's description it sounds really cool (and I did watch one of the sample games). My Pure Luck template was never really intended to be 'the most strategic', just 'strategic' in a way that most people would not expect is possible. Your template surely deserved more consideration and surely a higher score than mine, but I just don't want people to be left with the impression that my template was not strategic at all.

I feel like you're doing the same thing, you accused the commentators of. How have you classified the winning templates as boring? In my opinion, you need to at least see/play 4-5 games on a template to truly understand it.

I think a lot of people only know one strategy, and are afraid sometimes to leave their comfort zone. Especially those who have only played a certain way for so long.

Fleece i think i'm confident enough to say i know how a template works after 1-2 games. Maybe i don't even need a game to get the hang of it. So saying people are afraid to get out of their comfort zone might be correct. But completely not the case for me when i commentated yesterday. I wish you good luck by making it better on your contest. Already curious if you will have a stream and if so, how you're going to solve the time problem if you play every template.

I couldn't watch the stream, so I can't tell if this was already addressed, but I'm curious as to why Greece was chosen over EarthSea. Or someone just really, really sucks at math.

Comments on today's stream:

- Gnuffone was very poor with his justifications on why he rated templates the way he did. It all just seemed random with him having very rigid ideas on what qualifies as strategic. He even rated a template without seeing how many picks it had! It really does not get worse, as far as Strategic Warlight is concerned.

- I felt MoD, Sephiroth and Sze had much better reasoning and I enjoyed some of the commentary.

- Instead of creating a game amongst yourselves to analyse the settings, it would have made much more sense to review a sample game linked with each template. That would have given a better understanding of the game mechanics at play.

- I understand there were a high number of templates submitted and there were time constraints. I would suggest pre-filtering templates before the stream to save some time. Or you could do multiple streams and cover all templates with game analysis.

- I'm sure the first WGL wasn't as perfect as the ones we have today. I'm really happy you did something like this. I hope you continue to do this on a regular basis and I'm sure it'll only get better.
