BanaNa Thoughts #3 Alts: 11/4/2015 03:02:30

Today I will discuss alternate accounts. Known more commonly as “alts” on Warlight, alternate accounting is the practice of setting up more than one (main) account. The purpose for alts ranges from playing as your own teammate, playing an account on separate teams (cheating), multiaccounting in FFAs (cheating), experiencing different clans at once, chirping on the forums in the mask of a pseudonym (like i am doing), and anything in between.

The morality of the practice of multiaccounting has oft been argued heatedly on the forums and Fizzer’s stance is that so long as alts are not used to gain any kind of unfair advantage in-game, he is fine with players operating multiple accounts. What are your thoughts on alts and multiaccounting?

I think it's fine as long as you don't abuse them. Like using alts to participate in different clans, that's fine with me. Kyger does that a lot. But like getting 5 alts and trapping somebody in a Lotto is not acceptable in any way.

there's no point in getting 5 alts in a lottery game
its not even about trapping someone,you're wasting your own time,and you cannot get many points from such games either

IMO using an alt for the purposes of being your own team-mate and being in more than one clan at once is fine. But for cheating it's not cool

I mainly use my alts for practicing my 1v1 gameplay.
Alot of people play differently vs a level 26 than vs a level 56
Sometimes, i have both my main and an alt join the same diplo game, but make sure the slots they get are far apart. Not sure if that's cheating or not. It's also normally a practice game

^Do you gain an unfair advantage? ----> Yes, you do, so cheating.

Has Fizzer ever thought of making alternate pseudo-identities official, so that a legal alt would be associated with one actual person (like having different profiles, as is possible on some websites)? This would at least make it more clear cut what's a legal alt and what's not. Would be a bit of work, though.

I think joining with 2 accounts the same diplo is cheating as well..

Joining a lotto with 5 accounts is perfectly acceptable. I don't do it, but I have a good idea why people do it, and it's not for self-gain. People who play lottos shouldn't complain about "cheaters". I think it's cool how people deliberately screw over lotteries just to deter other players from playing them "legitimately" (if that is possible).

In lottos, the only way to gain an advantage is to gain a higher chance to get the good spawn position. By joining it with multiple accounts, you are using multiple accounts to gain an unfair advantage, because you have a higher chance of one of your accounts winning. Therefore, since using multiple accounts to gain an unfair advantage in a game is cheating, you are cheating. This situation actually happened, with a player named MG who became the highest leveled player by doing this in a TON of lottery games. He was docked ~6 million points by Fizzer iirc.

You can do this, however each account of you and each of the other players have the same chance, so others have no disadvantage, also you could otherwise just join one lottery with each account and have the same chance. You may increase your chance of winning, but you would have the same if each alt joined another lottery (unless you let the winning alt destroy the other players and then surrender to you). Also the other players have exactly the same chance of winning.

@masterperriod
this is not possible
each next time you play with your alts the points you win by beating them in a lottery game are reduced by about half
eventually you'll get so little points, you cannot afford to make more lottery games in a long time using your alts only
that's why i said its a waste of time

@Sander
That's what he did, surrendered to his main account.

@Ryiro
You still get full points from the others who join. Also if you look in that thread at the times the games were created, I'm pretty sure he was running some sort of bot for it.
