Hey guys,

I'm new to the Warlight community and to Risk in general. Earlier this year I started playing on an updated board (uses arrows instead of figurines and has objectives), but with only limited exposure. I've played the single-player maps, although have been running into difficulty with the Europe/Insane maps.

I would share my current strategies that are failing, but I'm about to start in the Membership Tournament, and that would just be foolish!

Any tips, common or not, would be appreciated. Links to outside resources would be awesome as well. I'd really like to fine tune quickly, even if I'm eliminated, as I plan to stick around for a good while.

It's nice finally having a board game that I thoroughly enjoy, and I hope my experience with Risk will improve with the help of this community.

Never surrender, even when things are getting tough.

Actually there is no point in making game much longer if you have no chance to win.

Always conquer those territories which let you take bonuses faster

Don't join games unless you intend to play before the boot limit, unless something important happens and could notify beforehand you will be away. A lot of people find players who stall annoying.

Gnomia, Dansanno actually has a pretty decent point, although taken too far imho..

lots of people surrender way too early.. and against some of them, I can show my income as seeming bigger then it is in various ways and make them think they are fighting an overwhelming disadvantage, isntead of near even odds..

If you look on the Home page of the site you can see the ladder. This offers a huge selection of game histories you can watch, try viewing the games of the top ten players and really studying what they do, from the amount of armies they use to capture neutrals to how they react to their enemies, and how they pick their opening territories. If you're observant enough, combined with enough practice to help you get through the practical aspects, you can improve very quickly.
