as a libertarian I am not a Bush fan but I will say this to you non Americans, you might like to make fun of him and quite frankly there's a lot of stuff to work with on that subject but Bush did something Al Gore and his dam arrogance could never have done; he united us. nobody remembers the Bush who went to all of the families and who had lost loved ones and did not make up some political lie for his own benefit like Clinton or even Gore ( " I made the internet!! " - Al Gore ) no, you know what he said? he said we are gonna find these bastards and beat the living shit out of them for what they did to you. most leaders always try to have an escape route so if they fail they can have something to fall back on. but Bush? no. people say that Obama found Bin Laden and that just pisses me off. it was Bush and his generals who worked 4 years hunting down those terrorists all over the world and then Obama comes in and basically all he had to do was sit in a chair and listen to what his chief of staff had to say. my point is this, Bush was the right man ( in his first term ) for the job and did something nobody else in America could have done. so if Planes ever fly into The Buildings of Paris or any other city, I hope you have someone half as good as George W. Conservative, it's true in France we usually have "mœurs légères" (Dont know the correct translation for it in English) about anything related to privacy/sex (fun fact: in the end of the 19th century a French president died of a heart attack while having a blue job by a mistress, I guess you wont find any US president having such incredible death xD). Our current president Hollande is not better, he had 3 women in the same time not so long after he was elected, and Gosh, before Hollande was chosen, DSK (Dominique Strauss Kahn), former director of IMF, was the favorite for the left wing, before this huge sex scandal in New York he had.

But yet even if the Americans are more prudish (yet you forgot to mention Clinton) what is private is in my honest opinion less catastrophic compared to misbehaviors done in public, by public I meant for example the many mistakes and stupidities Bush made, Sarkozy/Hollande/DK are really far from it even if he is far from being an example (and I hate Sarkozy). I hope you get my point.

And something about current Sarkozy's wife (and former first lady of France) Carla Bruni, some rumors existed about a possible relationship between her and Donald Trump, OMG this woman is a f**** whore!

The cited example of winning with only 22% of the vote is fine as The electoral college isn't meant to represent People. This was done on purpose by the founding fathers, who were really freaked out by the idea of a so-called tyranny of the majority that they rejected the idea that Presidents should be elected by popular vote altogether.

Now, it just so happens, that 95% of the time, the president has won the popular vote as well as the Electoral vote. However, this is really just a funny side-effect, since the electoral college was never meant to Elect presidents by popular vote. Instead, it has two purposes in my opinion:

1. To Encourage people to spread out, penalizing large groups of people with the same political alignment who cluster together. This relates to the mentioned vote distribution in the video. If a state has a huge Margin of people who vote exactly the same way, every vote above 50% of the vote is discarded.

2. To encourage Coalition Building. Here is a map of the States you would need to win with 22% of the Popular vote to be elected president:

If there is someone who can effectively unite parts of every region of the country, and convince radically different groups of people to all vote for the same candidate, that person deserves to be elected.

Close. It died when the anti-federalists lost the political philosophy and economic competition against Hamiltonian Federalists. That was effectively when we went from a state-empowered federal government to a federal-empowered federal government. Our country would have been much different if nullification and succession theory won.
