... and not even jet fuel can melt steel beams. Really, the only thing that can take us out is an inside job- but we're too carefully managed to let that happen.

On a serious note, this is what we're about:

Optimum is for players with a passion. It doesn't matter what it is- for me, it's about growing as a competitive player, becoming a trickier opponent, and extending Warlight's core game with interesting metagames. For some of our members, it's about making maps or very unusual, carefully constructed scenarios that call for entirely different approaches to gameplay. Your thing could be almost anything- map-making, strategic play, diplomacy, CLOT/league design, community handling- but we're just looking for straight-up driven players. Players with interests and goals. Players who like growing and making things.

We're a laid-back environment to some extent- obviously, no one's going to be pushing you to complete that map you started a month ago or crack the top 200 on the 1v1 ladder- it's all you, and if you don't feel passionate about it, well, this isn't a job. But we're also people who like to get things done.

It doesn't matter where you are currently- 30% 1v1 win rate? No understanding of what a first-turn bonus is? Have no idea what you're doing? That's okay. Motivation >> everything else.

Here's what we have to offer in return:

- we've built a solid maker community so far (since that was the first group we took in) and obviously have a few developers/programmers and whatnot

- we run the Infinity Premier League, a set of Elo-rated ladders across 65 templates, with 49 players from 21 clans currently participating (https://tinyurl.com/infinity-premier); anyone's welcome to join; 106 completed games so far with another 59 running right now

- I'm looking to start an internal community for players who're very interested in growing (regardless of current skill level)

- you also have a few guinea pigs to test your projects on + just people you can invite to games

- basically, you get to be surrounded by other motivated people

- the community's still fairly new, so you can also help make it better -> your initiative will have a pretty big impact

- and if you don't really fit our profile, we're not too closed of a community; you're welcome to join with any account as an Associate so you can still be part of the conversation to some extent + stay in touch + get help on your own projects

If you're interested in joining, PM me. I'll probably set up a 1v1 (feel free to pick a template) so we can discuss things.

TL;DR: If this is you, PM me:

Do you allow Alt's? Specifically ones that won't join more that 5 MD games (Just a few to help with other people's testing et) and are mostly there for what's going on in the clan forum.

^^ I don't know whether we have the interest level to do that.

^ Yes; alts are welcome as Associates. The requirements are lax- just don't screw things up on the forum, basically; as long as we can trust your alt to cause no damage, it's allowed.

A clarification:

- the Associate category is for anyone who just wants to be part of the clan but without being held to any requirements like activity; it's approved on a case-by-case basis to reduce/limit clutter, but alts are always welcome as Associates (although they can also be Members if they're willing to be engaged/active within the clan)

- alts are default-admitted as Associates since they're the only blanket case where the Associate category is granted automatically, but they can ask to become Members as well

I'm interested in joining a clan with programmers in it. Unfortunately I won't be leaving my clan, but I would still like to work with some of you guys.

I've programmed with Microsoft Visual Basic for a long time, until I realized how much more useful JavaScript is, which I've been trying to learn more recently.

I've made a few simple programs to help with WarLight, my most (in)famous being the Random Name Generator I use in mapmaking.

Here's my most recent thing, an attack analyzer.

I would absolutely love to learn more and someday create my own CLOT or something.

@Turnip:

this game, basically: https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=10224424

I don't know what's in the other team's private chat so idk what's going on and obviously no one knows the full context, but Fleece apparently felt that our members valued competitive performance too much for things to be a good fit for him. There's a bit more on the IPL thread, but here's how things went down (from what I can tell):

- in the linked game, Fleece didn't feel comfortable with his team communications because they were telling him to make moves that he didn't think were good

- he surrendered

- I asked why; Fleece said he didn't like it when people less skilled than him told him what to do

- wct sent me a PM telling me he didn't want to be part of the drama

- I thought I should try to defuse the situation, but didn't feel comfortable with Fleece's attitude toward wct so I pointed out that wct's 1v1 ladder rating clearly shows that he's not an unskilled player

- Fleece took this as a sign that Optimum overvalued ladder rating; the timing was all off since I also added clan ratings to IPL (due to an early request by ChrisCMU for aggregate player ratings, and with the intent to get more people/clans to participate in IPL)

- Fleece had also voiced concerns about Optimum coming across as elitist/exclusionary (he'd done a lot of recruiting for the clan and had definitely been very optimistic about it earlier)

Essentially, a miscommunication partly fueled by the reality that some of our players (including me) actually have very competitive attitudes. But we're also open to different approaches to the game- at the end, all that matters is that it's fun.
