What to watch depends on what you like. Try http://myanimelist.net/ for reviews and recommendations, pick a show and try it. If you don't like it, try something else. You'll find something you like pretty quick. One tip, though: Original Japanese voice with subtitles is almost always better than dubbed. Sometimes it's because the Japanese voice actors are serious professionals (which is usually true), but even if that weren't the case, most of the time the English dubbing is just horribly done. Trying to watch dubbed versions of shows after watching the original with subtitles is unbearable, IMO. There are only a very few exceptions, in my experience. One of those is the movie Akira, where both versions are good for different reasons. Kaneda is just much cooler sounding in the dub, but the original is a bit more authentic to the story/dialogue.

Well, that's because the english voice actors are shitty :D

Normally in dub comparisons it's pretty much a consensus that Japan and Brazil are #1 and #2 in terms of best voice actors before you even open up the other dubs. Sometimes they even swap places.

I know Genghis is (almost) trolling, but some of the best stories I've seen come from anime. I'm talking Shakespeare-level sh*t, here.

So much true.

Johnny Yong Bosch and Steven Blum with a hint of Vic Mignognog say otherwise, but to each his own I guess.

There are gems even in the trash can, Martian.

But even those are pretty low tier compared to the japs' and the hues' v. actors.

No amount of space operas, power levels, action comedy dramas or character studies will ever surpass the works of Shakespeare.

One would only hope to obtain a media medium in such a way as to compose not food for the plenty (or more realistically, bounty for the rich and scraps for the poor) but instead pure artistic achievement.

Personally, i wouldn't want every media outlet to be some piece of art.

Yet i find that when people attempt to produce Robotech Battlecry, they only come out with some CoD-quality (not to say that cod is bad. They're just shovelware and they add tacky stuff)

I'm just going to assume you don't want to watch subbed anime, seeing as you're just now getting into anime. Here's a few good entry anime with solid english dubs divided by series.

MECHA: Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, Macross, Code Geass (similar to death note).
MYSTERY: Monster, Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist.
ACTION: Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Fate/Zero.
PSYCHOLOGICAL: Serial Experiments Lain, Ergo Proxy, Texhnolyze, Neon Genesis Evangelion.
MOVIES: Kara no Kyoukai series, Colorful, Stranger, Redline.

If you're able to watch subbed anime, which means Japanese audio with subtitles then I highly recommend you watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It's a long anime, but it's without a doubt the best I've seen. I highly recommend using this website called MyAnimeList, it lets you sort through anime and what the community ranks them and you can find new anime that way. Feel free to add me on MyAnimeList and leave a comment if you need anymore suggestions.

As for Genghis, you just haven't seen Legend of the Galactic Heroes. That's why you can say that. It's a piece of art from the amazing soundtrack to the compelling storyline with some of the most fleshed out and realistic characters I've ever seen in anything to date. Give that a try.

I made the decision myriad year ago that i am not a weeaboo.

Anime is just a hype that I've never been hyped for.

Perhaps because I'm generally desensitized to what many consider "good media". After all, i lived a childhood and adolescence filled with good media (not saying any decade is better than the other or whatever. ...). Whereas many people see anime (those same people tend to like breaking bad-structured shoes) as a great art form, i don't see the difference from anything else. It's edible, and has never been a great treat. The only anime I'll ever watch is "Yu-Gi-Oh", and that is because of the pure nostalgia and not because it's anime (or particularly good kek).

Much like modern art, tumblr text posts and "self-portraits", anime is an art form i have no interest or real demand for. It's not superior or inferior, it is what it should be.

Not to say i haven't watched anime, but after watching Miyazaki and seeing other stuff, i just saw that it was not much hype. Besides, I find that anime also tends to be way too... "weeabooistic".

P.s. Go to Japan and look for the subtitles weebs

Watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes and say that again after, bet you can't. It's not a matter of being a weeaboo, there is a few shows undeniably worth the title of an artistic masterpiece that transcends stereotypical anime storytelling. It's like one big novel on screen, I highly recommend it. I can agree with your statement if we're talking about the majority of anime, since it's mostly pandering to the lowest common denominator - but as I've said in any medium there will always be a few things that stand out above the rest. That's LoGH. A huge spacewar with democracy and dictatorship fighting across the galaxy with hundreds of millions of people dying, a clash of ideals. Amazing show if I might say.
