Diplomacy isn't real Warlight, so it would make sense that it would drive itself to a natural extinction.

Any arguments to back up your statement? I don't see why diplomacy games would be less real than large FFA's.

Wolves host a lot of games- A LOT (I have 40+ multidays). Or you could join some other diplo clan (DARKLORDS? Join a diplo clan.), even if your clan doesn't host many games, you'll probably be invited to some interclan diplos, which are almost always some of my favorites.

In quality? Yes. In quantity? Yes.

Mostly because diplo players are also declining on both fronts.

You are perhaps right Knyte, but if this is true this would be due to many factors, the most important one being the lack of support/interest from the WL staff.

I like playing both kind of games, ladders and diplomacies, I would have joined a diplomacy clan, but at the time I failed to find a clan with good requirements (low bootrate and a good ammount of games to join). I guess there isn't really elite diplomacy clans anyway.

AOE requirement's for example:

Recruitment Requirements:
1) At least level 1 player
2) Played at least 10 games
3) Boot rate under 60%

That must be a joke lol. And even worst, I've found a member that didn't even follow these requirements:
-Sirswaglord, 63.1% bootrate.

How can you play a diplomacy game with players with a bootrate over 50%? He'll get statistically booted more then one every two games, beeing probably just a matter of time...

@Death, in response to your query:

FFAs are just as useless as diplomacy. If you want to really experience Warlight, stick to 1v1s and competitive 2v2/3v3. :)

I agree 110% with Kretoma and Koala. I honestly can't stand more than the occasional "Strat" game, they bore me to heck. The complexities and dynamics of a (good) FFA or Diplo is way more interesting and involved, and takes real skill. I find mostly only 1-dimensional players stick to the "Strat" stuff.

I think part of the problem is the good diplo players/makers are only playing inside clans (you have to get to know the players, and it's not easy, networking is key) and also there is a lack of good enough players for these sorts of games. Far too many players think that "Fighting everyone on all fronts at all times" is the only way to play, which works GREAT in 1v1 or team games, but they often fail miserably in a FFA or Diplo situation, or they just make the game drag out for everyone else while they deal with him, kill him, then the game can usually begin...

@fleecemaster

I agree with you. Playing diplos in the open games is simply not funny. Most of the time you just have bunch of players leaving and others going warmonger mode everytime they have a slightly overpowered slot. The bigger problem with diplos is that there isn't a "greater goal" other then winning them.

I've being thinking with another dude about a way to fix this.

The idea is to create something close to a tournament of diplomacies.

It would work like this:
- We'll have only one good template to play.
- We find some 20 players with good skills, low bootrate and commited to play a series of diplomacy games.
- Every game will have a limited ammount of turns (~30-40).
- Some actions and archivements in-game will reward you points that will go to a ranking. War-mongering won't reward you as many points as creating alliances and puppet states.
- Players won't be allowed to repeat their slots, so there's a chance for everyone to play the overpowered countries.

There's a prototype for these games in a middle east map:

That's why you create an alt and join a RP/diplo clan. If you with a diplo clan there is a less likelihood of players just bailing on the game.

Hopefully yes until some proper structures supporting diplomatic games are in place :)

Some structure whould be nice, but that's very vary to impliment, as I've explained before...

TeamGuns, that's some nice ideas. I've been trying to create a new type of "Secret Alliance Diplomacy" along similar lines, there's about 30 people in the league at the moment and from the first round generally everyone seems pretty happy with it, I'm still doing a lot of tweaking though, but it's good fun so far. I might be able to expand it into more "regular" Diplos if it works out :)

Well it's quite silimar to your idea, and perhaps we could simply expand the template I have to a larger one, and as I have about 30 people in it we could easily test out on a 20 player template if you feel like it?

Sure, let's test it.

Invite Tabby Juggernaut (Zephaniah) too, he's the guy I was planning to create this diplomacy tournament with.

I agree Semi, alliances are for fools... Everytime I hear "I can't attack that player I'm allied to him" I know that they've already lost, that's not how to play Diplos!!!

Teamguns, do you want me to host one? I can start by making a mail thread and we can chat about it...

Edit: I have no idea how to create multi threaded mail, man that's confusing...
