Option: General Action Cards: 2/5/2016 18:39:59

This may have already been suggested, but never-the-less...

An interesting option would be to just have "general action" cards. Basically, instead of gaining specific cards for specific situations, players can gain a general action card. With that card, the player can choose any particular maneuver, whether it be airlift, recon, reinforcements, etc. I think it would open up some interesting strategic opportunities.

What do you guys think?

To be fair i don't think it will be working out that well since every card has it's unique mechanic behind it and making a card where you actually can choose whatever you like can change the ful dynamic of a game.

There is a site to post these sort of suggestions by the way: https://warlight.uservoice.com/forums/77051-warlight-features
just make sure to post it there and fizzer might actually look into it when it gets enough votes

Thanks Fubuki. I was thinking it could just be an option.

I think that would be a big issue in competitive games because you can't figure out the person has 1 OP, 1 block, etc. I get that you are proposing it as an option, but honestly it would not be used in any ladders, etc...so I can't see it being on his 'immediate road map' when we have more pressing needs.

Thanks for the reply Chris. On the other hand, the players have more potential options and therefor the opponent has more variables to consider. They may know what they can do, but not what they are going to do.

I liked the idea. If you receive one of this cards you could, for example, use as a +10 reinf, diplo 1 turn, abandon, airlift (this could be configured), what could make an interesting possibility for a lot of games, like diplo, ffa, teams or even 1v1. It could make some situations more unpredictable and force the player to use it wisely

It would work well if the template designer could choose which cards the "wild card" could represent, and the values of such cards. I'm not much of a ladder player myself, but trying to work out how your opponent is going to use his general action card could add an additional layer of strategy to games.

However, as Chris said, it's certainly not a priority... which means that Fizzer just might do this before doing anything else first :P

Carlosmezz, that is exactly the idea.

CITC, I agree that it would add an extra layer of choice and strategy.

I like the basic concept. Honestly, there are a lot of possibilities for the card system that could be explored. It could be made more modular and customizable by a lot. For example, in a game you can only have one single type of reinforcement card. You can't have one kind that's a fixed +10 and another that's a progressive 2 * NumberOfTurns. You can't have a sanctions that's positive and lasts 2 turns to play against opponents and at the same time a negative sanctions card that lasts only 1 turn to play on yourself.

I think the card system could use an overhaul to make introducing new card ideas like this much easier. But I imagine that it's one of those low-priority things that will take forever and a day to get here.
