My sincere condolences to Mr. Scalia's family and friends.

However, his departure means the United States will become a better place. I'm looking forward to President Obama replacing Mr. Scalia with a more progressive judge.

Also, its *very* very *very* unlikely the Senate will approve anyone Obama nominates. If a democrat wins, its entirely possible we won't have a Supreme Court til 2020, with President Kanye.

Yeah, I looked at Scalia's background and he's definitely not an idiot. At the very least you've got to respect the talent and work that takes someone to the Supreme Court. And at the end of the day, he might've made life sadder for millions of people but that's democracy- not him personally.

This might also be an interesting skirmish in the 2016 election.

Word is that Obama could nominate Sri Srinivasan, who would be the first Indian-American to be nominated. Don't know much about his judicial record though...he got confirmed 97-0 by the Senate so he can't be all bad.

We can wait and see.

I'm expecting 1-2 rejections within 100-150 days and then a quick nomination sometime in June or July.

"quick nomination"? You think Mitch McConnell is gonna cut a deal? Less liberal judge in return for some budgetary/tax deal maybe...I could see that happening since McConnell has a got the spine of a 2 year old.

Perhaps a deal, but more likely just an erosion of political willpower. Having a crippled judiciary branch for that long is unprecedented. McConnell also isn't going to gain much from delay tactics since it's not very likely that the next president's going to be on his side, either.

Here's what I would find lovely:

1) Obama nominates a minority that is fully qualified

2) Senate Republicans and all Republican presidential candidates reject the nominee until November elections.

3) The large population needed to elect a Republican as President is offended by the Republican party and either fails to vote Republican or votes in a Democrat.

4) The Democrat president then nominates Obama to the Supreme Court.
