I agree, BIV MA was really nice. I think MA is definitely "strategic" enough to be considered for the WSOW. All of Ruthless Bastard's Blitzkrieg templates are awesome as well.

On the subject of LD, no matter what you play it just tends to...drag. It takes a lot of time and effort, even for a small map such as Turkey, and as Timi said previously it can become a pick lottery due to the limited picking scenarios. The only LD template I played that I enjoyed was Ancient Greece II LD which is pretty unconventional as far as templates go (auto-distribution, light fog, LD).

I agree with your idea of including Fast Earth. I can't remember if Slow Earth is better, but I recall it was still a decent template. Non-default kill ratios could be a good addition.

More WR is better! Although more templates should utilize SR due it being the favored luck setting (according to Fizzer at least), so I think 2 is plenty as well.

Ok, so I've made a complete fog template (sorry Ox, it's on MME). Could 2 players with a much better of understanding of WarLight than me try it and tell me if they think it will works, if it need more surveillance cards, or if it will never work?

Yes yes please keep the feedback coming!

Even if templates are not included in WSOW - chances are I will not be including any new templates, I prefer the ones that have withstood the test of time - feel free to experiment and start your own tournaments with them!

If most people like 6 or 7 of the 9 templates then that should be good enough, since only the top 6 will count for points anyway.

For those who think points should be changed, please suggest alternate scoring schemes? Note that season 1 and season 2 were very different and each had their own weakness. In season 1, winning was not as highly scored and a player who won 3 tournaments ended up getting outscored by a player who only won 1 and did well in the playoffs. In season 2 a player who won 2 tournaments is threatening to run away with the title by a margin larger than playoffs can make up.

Can someone either link a Slow Earth game or describe the settings? Are there other templates where kill ratios are played around with that is not on ME/MME? (to maximize diversity)

For instance if I include the usual Battle Islands template I'm tempted not to include the MA template, in favor of another map that is not used in another tournament.

Regarding the complete fog Battle Islands that timon linked: I really like this one! The mechanics of finding out intel are fascinating, and the negative bonuses are great too. (I'd get rid of the volcanoes +11 though). Great example of a strategic complete fog template.

Points System:
(1/n)*100

Trying to get maximum points:

1st: 100 (should probably be nerfed as it means a player need only win 50% + 1 of the tournaments to win overall)
2nd: 50
3rd: 34
4th: 25
5th-8th: 16 (used 6th)
9th-16th: 8 (used 12th)
17th-32nd: 4 (used 24th)
33rd-64th: 2 (used 48th)
65th-nth: 1

Trying to get minimum points:

1st: 0
2nd: 12
3rd: 22
4th: 30
5th-8th: 36
9th-16th: 40
17th-nth: 42

It should be quadratic but it doesn't work out on paper.

Very cool, I d be in.
Would everyone be able to participate? Or do you plan to have a max number of players and some selection filters?

Push, here's a sample Slow Earth game: https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=9982346

Non-default kill rates make 3v2 attacks work, but have no leftovers.

tomjh, none of those points make sense. These are double elimination tournaments.

PJ017, in the past this was open to everyone without selection filters. I see no reason why we should stop, as it's hard enough to get 100 people to do anything. In season 2 even when adding players throughout the season bye accounts had to join tournaments.

In season 3 I will poll season 2 participants for season 3 participation, add that to people replying to the threads that say they specifically want to play, and this will form our initial list of participants. Then, for all tournaments that are slow to start, I will make a call for participants on the forum to see if I can avoid using byes (and add them to the participants list).

prabster, nationality doesn't matter in this, it's more world series because everybody is free to participate in it actually instead of representing their country or their clan they just represent themselves.

There was a nations league or something like that before. It was pretty cool, not sure what happened to it.

As for WSOW, I will for sure use these templates:

Classic Ladder Medium Earth 0% WR
East Asia & Oceania with Classic Ladder army/neutral settings
Battle Islands V 0% SR with Recon cards
Ancient Greece 0% SR
Guiroma 0% SR

I think I want one more "normal" template. Turkey LD would have been it but too many people are complaining about it. So I'm going to go with:

Treasure Map 0% SR

Then there are the weird ones. These are included in an attempt to make WSOW diverse enough so that players don't just play the same way in all tournaments.

French Brawl 0% SR with modified bonuses, 0.5 extra income per territory, and light fog
Snow Mountains Multi-attack
Fast Modified Medium Earth 0% SR 75% off kill rate 50% def kill rate

French Brawl is picked because no one complained about it in the thread.

Snow Mountains is picked because several people wanted a multi-attack template, and I wanted to choose a map that wasn't already used in another tournament.

Fast MME is picked because it exploits interesting settings and no one complained about it in the thread.

Alternates I am considering for any "weird" templates that get lots of negative feedback:

Ancient China - a unique template but I hate the map design (lots of wasted space) so I'm tempted to omit it.
Battle Islands MA - this would replace Snow Mountains
Complete Fog on Battle Islands

What would help me the most: when you reply, please say what templates you like and which templates you dislike, so I'm not taking the feedback of complaints only.

I'm interested in this.

All of the templates look good to me (assuming by "classic ladder" in EA&O you mean 2 neutral armies 0% WR rather than the real-time ladder template). Fast MME looks interesting, not sure I've ever played a game where attacking kills more than defending. Ditto the complete fog one.

I'm not familiar with Ancient China, could you link it?
