I saw the thread about "Oh my god" being a swear and thought of the occasional time when people get yelled at for saying "shut up" at which point I think to myself "well you're just no fun at all, are you." What do you all think?

I would say it could be a rude thing to tell someone, but I don't believe it would be a swear word.

I think I was around 12 before I realised "shit" was a swear word. We used it all the time in my house; not as an insult but an exclamation like, "Darn it!". Nobody ever called me out on it for ages and luckily I never used it in front of teachers haha.

Remember coming home from school one day and telling my mum, "No seriously it's a swear word." To which she was like, "No it just means poo." XD

EDIT: To answer the question, no, shut up is not a swear word in my book.
