SW Corner: Is Supreme Leader Snoke Darth Plagueis?: 5/2/2016 02:01:36

Darth Darth Binks
Level 56
"Ironic. He could save others from Death, but he couldn't save himself."

Does anyone else smell bullcrap?

Hello, there! I am your lovable host, Martian, and we are back (for the first time) at Star Wars Corner! Today's topic: Is Supreme Leader Snoke, seen in Episode VII of Star Wars, Darth Plagueis? For those of you who have seen this theory on the web, I must say that I and my friends have been thinking about this since 'before is was cool.' I am most disappointed that he is not Jar Jar Binks (Physically), I do see a chance of Snoke being Palpatine's master. While this is mostly just thought out speculation, I find it interesting that certain things have lined up the way they have.

Darth Plagueis was Darth Sidious' (Emperor Palpatine) former master. In the Star Wars lore, it is said that Palpatine killed his master in his sleep, and Palpatine himself alludes to this in Episode III during his discussion with Anakin Skywalker ("The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise"). Because this story was brought up in the movie, we can, for certain, say that Darth Plagueis is canon. But was Darth Plagueis truly killed?

1.) Darth Plagueis was on his way to discovering eternal life, and he was nearly there when his student supposedly killed him. He was able to save others from death. He is the reason Anakin Skywalker was conceived without a father. His connection with the Force is something we have never seen in the movies or shows ("The Clone Wars" and "Rebels"). It is difficult to think that he was killed in his sleep. If he was in such sync with the Force, he would have seen Palpatine's betrayal a mile away. Even the incapacitated Count Dooku was able to sense something was amiss when Asajj Ventress came for his life. I do not think such a wise, powerful, and mystical person such as Plagueis could possibly die so pathetically.

2.) Supreme Leader Snoke looks awfully like a Muun (an old Muun), the same species as Darth Plagueis.

3.) Kylo Ren refers to Snoke as "wise." Darth Plagueis' nickname was "the Wise." Coincidence? Probably, in all honesty. But it is quite the easter egg if Abrams goes the route I want him to.

4.) Who could possibly have picked up the remnants of the Empire? If Snoke is his own person, I find it unlikely that he, obviously a mystical person of some sort, just waltzed on in and said, "Yo Imma make this joint great again who's with me?" and everyone responds, "Hells yeah!" He had to have been someone in close contact with the Empire, someone who was involved with the inner workings of the Empire. That could very well be Plagueis. In fact, going off of what we know from the movies and shows, I don't know of anyone else it could be. If Snoke is his own person and not someone from the lore, I will be disappointed in Abrams and his inability to to make a believable story. I'm not saying Plagueis being alive should be believable to all of you, but a thrown-in character doesn't make sense, especially in a scenario such as Episode VII's.

5.) This speculation is what gives the other speculations some ground on the grounds of speculation. Did anyone see the "Rogue One" trailer, yet? If not, there is a scene where a hooded figure is standing in front of a bacta (healing) tank, presuming to kneel down. The tank is flanked by an Imperial Guard on either side. Who is in the bacta tank, between Episodes III and IV? It's not Darth Vader. He was in working condition at the end of III, and he has his own little ball of some sort that he chillaxes in. It shouldn't be Emperor Palpatine. I don't know of anyone who could injure him that badly, and his injuries from Episode III were brushed aside colder than dry ice. I believe that the only one who could be in that tank is Darth Plagueis. Hear me out:

Although I built Plagueis up to be tough sh*t, which he is, I do not mean to belittle Darth Sidious, who is also tough sh*t. I mean, these guys were the perfect Master/Apprentice duo. Either one could skin you, but both of them together would make you jump out of your skin before they get their hands on you. Sidious mastered all 6 forms of lightsaber combat, and he is quite strong in the Force. I believe that, if catching Plagueis off-guard, he could defeat him.
And another thing: Sidious is sadistic. He's ruthless. He's a villain. It makes more sense to me personally if he doesn't kill his master outright, but makes him weak, makes him bow down to him. This way, Sidious could use Plagueis to build his Empire. Plagueis, being the wise man he is, would wait it out until his apprentice's folly, and pick up the pieces for himself.
We mentioned earlier that a hooded figure was bowing to the bacta tank. There is only one character that comes to mind when I think of a black hood: Emperor Palpatine. And there is only one person Palpatine has ever, and would ever, bow down to (be it in sincerity or mockery): Darth Plagueis. It would also make sense that such an important asset such as Plagueis the Wise would be flanked by Imperial Guards. The only explanation for me being completely wrong is that both the person in the bacta tank and the one in the black robe are new characters, which would be quite disappointing.

So who is Supreme Leader Snoke? Is he a new character that will be the new mastermind of a new generation of Star Wars? Or is he Darth Plagueis, who patiently awaited for his apprentice to build an Empire just for him? Of course, we know the one pulling all the strings is Jar Jar Binks, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Jar Jar Binks is Rey's father. Abrams confirmed in recent interview

The sad thing is, seeing how simple the plot in SW7 was, and how pretty poor the acting was, it's very hard for me to believe that they'd do something this complex, sadly.

It would be awesome and would make sense.... but this is Disney we are dealing with now.

Responding to title because tl;dr: Nope. Based on the new media (starting with Aftermath and now going on with Rogue One and Bloodline), there's a backstory being inserted that'll likely lead up to Snoke- with some powerful dark force outside the galaxy coming in.

No, this would be pure crap. Star Wars franchise just before deleting from canon had more than enough Sith and other related uber-pure-evil-that-destroy-galaxy who hibernated thousands of years detached from the rest of Galaxy to return and scare everyone and that was cheap after a while.
After that we would just as well have yet more Siths returning from grave and making Even Newer First Order.

Also, he looks like an ork from LOTR much more than Plagueis. :P

Disneysis is a disease that sadly infested the SW franchise, the last movie was terrible (imo), and I can't expect anything positive for the next ones...

I'm not going to lie... The Phantom Menace is better than the force awakens.

^ Leave. Unless Jar Jar actually is evil, the movie sucked, aside from the Jedi battle.

Honesty Martian, I rewatched it on Sunday. I actually enjoyed it, it has more Star Wars magic than the new one. I couldn't say the same for Attack of the clones though.
