I refreshed my computer the other day and sent it back to factory settings, suprised to discover Windows 8 on it. I updated it to 10 about a day after the version came back but now that I've rediscovered Windows 8, it's not all that bad. I have a laptop with a touchscreen and it seems to work perfectly. Convince me otherwise? Discuss?

I dont know anything about Win 10, but I would never switch to it anytime soon, because many games and programs, I have, are not compatible with it yet

I've kept Win 8 on my PC. Good to know I did the right thing... still have Win 10 on the laptop I'm using right now, though. I'd just say... bring back XP! Just update it and we're good, Microsoft.

8.1 is basically a free update. It brings back some features from 7, like the start button at the bottom left corner.

well, my ideas are this:
7 was the first windows OS with actual security, and was fairly functional
8 had effective security, but if you don't use touch screen, it's interface is worth the value of 2 grains of sand
10 looks good, but I haven't ever actually used it in any shape or form.

Anything before 7 doesn't count, it lacks security.

Only odd numbers of windows are actually good. They didn't have anything good, so they skipped over 9 when making the next version.

Basically, any idiot on the internet with reasonable good programming skills can give the computer a virus or steal admin controls without having to do anything elaborate, you don't even need to know machine code.

Antivira, and other like kinds of programmes can't do anything about this?

Also, just turn off the internet, that should solve the problem.

Yes, but older Microsoft versions had these security issues basically as a feature, which they would provide anti-virus programs to cover for, and there were some inherent flaws that allowed for remote admin access on a home PC, which can't really be stopped by a anti-virus program.

While the remote admin hack was much more difficult, it could be done without extreme difficulty, as is the case with linux and mac machines, linux due to most users actually being programmers, and so their is massive community support for security support(so long as you actually know what you're doing with the code, as people per usual on the internet are occasionally trolls), and mac machines lacking that functionality to begin with.

In general: remote admin access is just a bad idea.

Edit: As for turning off the internet, that was the solution in the past, but in the present that's not really advisable.

I bet there would be some fix to the remote administrator access problems, so (if I'm right about that), then I think it would be an overkill to say "Anything before 7 doesn't count, it lacks security.", since you can get it the fixes fairly easily. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Windows Defender would still need constant updating, as all antivira programmes do.

As for turning off the internet, that was the solution in the past, but in the present that's not really advisable.

Nuance translation: the internet is narcotic (but really, I had a really crappy computer once, with practically no internet, so I just downloaded permanently everything I needed, and then hardly wielded the internet).

I still use and love Windows 7 and I have no plans to update to 10.

Yeah, the interface just really bugs me after Windows 7.

The only thing good about Windows 10 is the APP Store.

You can use the XBOX app (in APP store) and play XBOX games.
I am not sure if it allows to play any XBOX game (as exclusives).

I hope Windows 10 is a replacement to console.

I wonder if we will be able to play PS4 on PC.
