Hello Fizzer!

I'm curious, are you hiring? Or just staying as a 1 (or 2) man team? What positions would you offer?

Nic

Knyte should at least be a consultant. You could contract out some of the tedious programming labor to him & Master of the Dead, maybe a few others.

Thing with the tech market right now (jobs vastly outnumber qualified people) is that you're really underselling yourself if you're going to work for free. That also means you want to avoid hiring the kind of people who'd be willing to work for free.

Well the tech market is going to be no longer a source of employment in the next century or so, so i don't think it's all that meaningful anyway.

But right now it's not hard to get any software job and the bar (in terms of skillset/skill level) is not very high. Warlight faces some pretty stiff challenges if it tries to find someone who's not going to screw up their codebase and wants to work for them for free.

Yo, if the bar isn't high for software work, count me in. How low's the bar? :D

If you can use Microsoft Office they'll probably hire you from what i see at some place. If you could do mods on say, a .lua for Civ 5 then you're probably guaranteed.

~6 months and a bit of motivation to learn Python and develop/contribute to open-source projects on your own can give you a shot at a decent job. Obviously, if you're looking for something more coveted, you'll have to pick up something that requires an actual understanding of what's going on under the hood, but tbh just a basic working knowledge of imperative programming (without even understanding memory management) give you a pretty solid base.

knyte, you wield too much jargon, do you think anyone who cares knows what "imperative programming" or "memory management" is?

Good to know! This one knows bits of Python, but nothing special. Honestly, Khajiit knows more Spanish. He knows enough to say, "Yo hablo un poco, pero, no comprendo nada."

Xy, you don't have to be a Douche. I hate knyte, but if you don't understand what it means I'm fairly certain you could ask him, or look it up.

That's why I used them. If you're able to thoroughly explain what those terms mean, then you're well on your way to competence. :)

@Skooma: if you're genuinely interested and have downtime over the summer (?- not sure whether you're still @ USC), PM me and I can help you get started

@Knyte- Is Python anything like JavaScript? And can you use a basic text editor (Notepad++) to edit it?

Kind of and yes.

Although JavaScript has solid market demand too, though (some types of web devs often don't get paid as much but eh). WL is written in mostly Haxe afaik, so if you want to contribute to Fizzer's thing that's probably what's most worth learning.

I've honestly never heard of Haxe before. The only programming language I know well is Visual Basic, but I used that to help me learn some simple JavaScript.
