Wow you guys have been busy (I was literally offline for like an hour?)
Austria seems to be missing a country bonus
Thanks, I'll get this added :)
Also, I´m sure some Germanic language is spoken in Poland, Czech Republic, France, Slovakia...?
There are small communities of german speakers, but too widely dispersed to include on a map of this size.
Also please add a separate Liechtenstein bonus!!!
If I added a bonus my map wouldn't validate since there's no liechtenstein territory, and I can't add one because it's too small :(
Yes DerWyyy, I already told him about it but he refuses to listen.
I do not see why Ireland is added here since it is a Celtic land like Wales, whereas Alsace isn't and is a Germanic land not only in language but culture too.
Ireland is primarily English speaking throughout, and alsace is primarily french speaking throughout. Do you see now?
I didn't take culture into account at all, since it can be argued that all european culture is just one culture (ask juq, he's a very strong proponent of this position).
french is a germanic language. You left out PreuBen also. Irish isn't a germanic language.
French is not a germanic language, it's a romance language.
Prussia primarily speaks polish in modern times, which is unsurprising given that the eastern part (which is what I'd assume you're complaining about) it's kind of part of poland.
Irish isn't spoken by anyone, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Even in ireland, it's only the native language of around 2% of the population.
Yeah, take away north Wales and the Outer Hebrides.
I'm very uncomfortable with this whole "Taking out parts of countries" business. It was fine with belgium since fair enough, dutch isn't the majority language there, and switzerland was sort of okay since it's a relatively small country. I don't want to have to scan through every province of every country i've included, as this just creates awkward holes in the map, and to be honest it's good enough, since upwards of 90% of the population speaks germanic languages.
add the south african country of NAMIBIA... German is huge there
The map is called "
European Germanic Languages". Namibia is as you've pointed out not in europe, but in africa.
Also, if I was adding places outside of europe, Namibia isn't on the top of my list; The United states is.
