For those who haven't seen the movie (lookin at you, younguns): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_eZmEiyTo0

This is basically the situation in which I find myself in almost every game that I play against anyone who knows what they're doing. And this is why, unless he completely changes the fundamentals of the game, Fizzer will never really remove luck from Warlight. He may meet the legal requirements for it to not be gambling, but there will always be guesswork involved.

Now I just have to figure out the Warlight equivalent of putting a poison that I'm immune to in both cups...

Luck =/= guesswork. Knowing your opponent and trying to guess what s/he will do is the core of almost all strategic multiplayer games. I'm struggling to think of a game where guesswork isn't involved.

That's true; I know that my opponent is a clever man who would deploy to territory A, because he knows that only a great fool would attack territory B. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not attack territory A. But he must have known I was not a great fool; he would have counted on it! So clearly I can not attack territory B!

Edit: Not saying that this a flaw in Warlight, or that Fizzer should completely change the fundamentals of the game, but come on, the comparison is uncanny. xD

but you defeated my ally down in Antarctica, so you like attacking the south. But you know i would think that so you'll attack the north.

Thus is a flaw with strategies like warlight. The guesswork interferes with developing and conducting the strategy.

Truly you have a dizzying intellect.

You're just stalling now.

This is a great comparison, but it has been made before. It was on that Genghis thread about strategy vs foresight i think

Definitely not. I have seen this in my thread on attacking when multibordering, but maybe it was brought up somewhere sooner - that comparison is simply inevitable :)
Actually I find this as something which contribute a lot to Warlight's appeal.
