Weird Map Idea: 5/27/2016 17:49:20

Hey guys. So a few days ago, I had a really wacky idea for a map, and I started making it. Here's what I've got so far:

https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=56913

Basically, it's a whole bunch of ideas smashed together. Here's how it works:

1. Take the population of a country over 6 million and divide it by ten million. So for example the UK comes out to 6.5, and gets rounded to 6. So, it gets six territories.

2. Next, I take the six largest cities in the UK and draw territories around them to be the appropriate size.

This produces some really interesting results, and I'm not really sure if it even represents anything. However, it's a really fun map to make, so I'm definitely going to continue for now.

If you have any suggestions for what to name it or any other feedback, It'd be really awesome if you could let me know :)

populations in UK.

1. London
2. Birmingham
3. Glasgow
4. Liverpool
5. Leeds
6. Edinburgh

pl0x fix, Scotland deserves 2 territories.

Also, 15 territories for Bangladesh? I think some exceptions must be made :P

That's the list I used for the UK.

Obviously exceptions have to be made for really densely populated areas, and in fact one has already been made with india. India should have something like 130 territories, but I swear I literally packed territories in there like sardines and it only ended up fitting 67.

Don't know where you got this from but it is completely incorrect. The cities Imperator has used are correct except Southampton should be swapped for Manchester.

EDIT: Nuremburg should be swapped for Cologne or, if that's not possible, Nuremburg should be swapped for Bremen and Düsseldorf should be swapped for Cologne.

Michigan- Detroit

Also, could you use coloured bonuses for multi-territory bonuses? It looks great.

Manchester is actually inside of the territory I've named "Liverpool", so I'll just rename Liverpool to manchester.

Cologne is inside of Dusseldorf, so again I'm just going to rename it.

Do you mean for multi country bonuses like Central Europe and Central asia?

USA spelling errors I noticed

Pheonix -> Phoenix
Louisvilla -> Louisville

Also, shouldn't Israel be Jerusalem?

Another thing- Why did the 6.5 for the UK round down? Doesn't .5 and above round up? I guess it doesn't really matter in the end, though.

Otherwise, the concept seems pretty cool.
Keep it up!

Thanks, I got those spelling errors fixed :)

When an entire country only has room for one territory, It gets named after the country. Take for example belgium, the netherlands, and switzerland.

Places like Austria although only having one territory get named after the city since the territory doesn't encompass the entire country.

Also, the .5 rounds down because I say so :P There's not really any reason for it, I just decided that that's how it's going to be when I started making the map.

No, it's more than two ideas, it's just that it only takes a two step process to produce it. The map contains elements of:

Population density maps
City only maps
Cartogram maps with relative country sizes
World maps showing only populated areas

Looks like a fun concept.

Just don't forget to add South Sudan (it splited off from sudan in 2011), the background map looks more modern that way lol...

Yes,finally you said something right. Well done!

1. Take the population of a country over 6 million and divide it by ten million. So for example the UK comes out to 6.5, and gets rounded to 6. So, it gets six territories.
6,5 is rounded to 7,so you are wrong.
Sicily is not a city,so fix it.

(if 6,5 continues to be rounded to 7,I'll vote it 1,and create 100 alts to vote it 1)

Thanks for letting me know about this. I'm not sure why so many svg world maps have this exact same error, but it seems like literally every single time I make a world map I'm fixing this :P

6.5 gets rounded to 6 because I say so, and since it's my map what I say matters a lot more than any threats you can make. And if you do that, I'll report you, and you'll get suspended and all your junk rating sremoved. And it'll be fairly obvious that it's you since I literally never get 100 ratings on my maps.

Being more accurate, the UK's population is only 6.41 tens of millions, so it should be rounded to 6 territories.

Also, you could squeeze in more than 2 territories in Bangladesh, considering it should have 15.

Yeah, I mean the multicountry bonuses. Maybe not but having it coloured would make it clearer.

Why does the population of the Netherlands get rounded down from 1.7 to 1 territory, while it should be 2

logically you should be rounding up though, to keep the same basis throughout the entire map..

for instance, if you have a country with 8.5mil, would you not create it, or would you give it 1 territory?

although those inconsistencies really don't matter, since as you provided earlier, certain high density countries prove to be impossible to do this way without providing a magnified view of those countries *india/china*

All countries with over 6 million people get at least one territory, possibly more depending on their area. In cases such as the netherlands, they only get one territory due to being too small to fit more than one.

Also, you could squeeze in more than 2 territories in Bangladesh, considering it should have 15.

I could see maybe fitting in three, but honestly Bangladesh has a really weird shape and it makes it pretty difficult to add too many territories.

I'll experiment with having the multi country bonuses colored, see if I can't come up with something that looks decent.

Why does the population of the Netherlands get rounded down from 1.7 to 1 territory, while it should be 2

The Netherlands only fits one territory, and honestly even that is kind of stretching, As I've already had to erase a lot of the detail of the country (I believe there was some kind of lake system in the middle of the country).
