I have finished a few single player templates so far (8), slightly tedious but I noticed nobody has completed the final challenge yet.

209 attempts and no completion?

I want to give it a go - Does anyone have template link?

Didn't a Master beat it with a 1/37 chance?

Haven't seen the template yet, so not sure what you mean by 1 in 37 chance?

You can give it a go once you get to it. :)

Everything on the lead up to it is relatively easy. Some are difficult if you have bad luck, but I think all the other levels are at least possible if you have horrible luck and play well.

I just finished it.

At first I thought it was impossible. An alliance like in the crazy level, one of them as a boss, plus their spawning huge armies in your backyard.

Here is the key

Expand like crazy, duh.
Go south, try to keep advancing but avoid using any more than you have to.
With the rest go north, take the south east US then focus on the rest. Send something into Spain. You need the army production and to keep the Euro bonus from the Euro AI.
Here is the thing.
The Boss will spawn a army of 7 in your back yard. Deploy everything you got and attack it as your first attack., hope that the Boss doesn't reinforce it otherwise you are screwed.
Once that spawned unit is down, you should have found the South America AI leader. Try to take him out ASAP. Make sure you have enough troops to win the fight and 5 reinforcements. if you can't take him out, attack last not first. Usually the commander will move away from you. Any additional troops should be keeping Spain and perhaps Morocco and expanding north. Use your commander on solo attacks towards Canada along with other troops.

If you are lucky, you should by this point have an empty south flank any troops can mop up what they can avoiding any neutrals with large forces, the rest can move to Africa or the Pacific. Keep taking North America and Morocco.
Once you got the Americas tied up, hit Europe and Greenland hard, anything left use on the Euro AI in Africa. Consider dropping 10 troops at the first territory west of Alaska or a few other places depending on the situation. Pacific islands are a good candidate unless the Boss is heading over.
When you encounter the boss, put an army or three in every surrounding territory and attack twice at the end of each move to keep him isolated.
Every time a swarm shows up behind your lines you should be able to take it out by putting pretty much all of your reinforcements next door and attacking first.

If a swarm survives you are probably toast.
If the boss shows up at your borders before you got a decent income, like both Americas, you are toast.
You need to get the South American AI pretty quickly, you can't let him build up or... well get the butter and jam ready because...

I almost won on my 3rd try but I put my commander in danger and died.
I figure I had about 12 tried before I nailed it.

I disagree regarding your priorities. Getting rid of the spawn right away is not that important. It can help you win the level more easily, but nothing is more important than getting rid of the two commanders.

If you kill the spawn and kill the South American commander at the same time, good. But if you can't, you should prioritize killing the South American commander. And hunting down the European commander. The spawn comes after, you can always "handle" it until you have enough income to eliminate it.

I will admit, perhaps my first experience with the swarm left a bad taste in my mouth. I worry about reinforcements being dumped in my backyard and quick expansion.

Yeah, I understand. But since you you reached the last level, you should know how the warlight AI plays, its moves are quite predictable.

With delayed orders and a few armies deployed on every territory bordering the enemy stack, it is not difficult to "clean up" after a stack like you would clean up after a boss on other levels. So if necessary, you can wait a few turns before you eliminate the stack.

Granted, it is always best if you can eliminate it right when it appears. But it cannot be at the expanse of killing the two commanders.

Well, there are now 22 recorded wins on this level (it doesn't say how many different players). So it's certainly beatable!

I tried it tonight, and was quite surprised:

While it's certainly challenging, it's nothing too crazy. I beat the level on my first try. This surprised me, because I can see better players than me had to try dozens of times before they beat it. In comparison, I was never able to beat the Insane Challenge in the original single-player mode.

However, I sure took my time (34 turns). I cannot IMAGINE beating this scenario in 14 turns, as rakleader did. How is that even possible? I'd love to see a replay or something like that of such a quick win (I can imagine it might be possible with an Emergency Blockade if the Boss ever goes along a predictable path - in my game, he stayed in North America and I was never able to just plop down troops in his path.)

rakleader, can you tell us a bit about how you managed so quickly?

That's normal. Fizze made it easier for people, I think only mod won it on the hardest difficulty? A lot of people manage it right now, but that's because, like I said, a lot easier than before :( Shame

@M. Poireau

I first tried to complete the level before the update and I gave up after a few tries.

Then I tried again right after the update. On my first or second try, I managed to fnish it in 21 turns (I think) but it was quite messy.
The boss headed straight to North America from the start and I didn't have enough income to stop him in Alaska. I did an emergency blockade anyway but it wasn't enough stop him. I had to let him run around for several turns in North America and clean up after him. Then when I had collected enough card pieces, I used another emergency blockade on one of the 3 territories adjacent to the boss and I prayed he would choose to attack that territory. I got lucky and it worked.

Then over the next few hours, I tried my best to improve that score.
My second win was in 17 turns. This one was cleaner, I killed the boss in Asia. But there was still room from improvement as my last turns could have been played better.
My third win was in 16 turns, but I should have done it in 15 turns. I messed up on turn 15 and found myself with ONE remaining enemy territory.^^
I was so frustrated by this last win than I refused to quit playing until I could complete the level in 15 turns... I tried and tried again, abandoning as soon as I considered my first turns less-than-perfect. and then I got extremely lucky. Everything went well and I managed to complete it for the fourth time in 14 turns. :)

The best way to play this level is to get rid of both AI as soon as possible. The South American AI has to be eliminated on turn 5 and the European one on turn 9. Their behavior is almost always the same, it makes it relatively easy to kill their commanders.
Once it is done, expand everywhere you can (Africa, North America, Asia, Oceania) and more importanly, try to break every single bonus the Asian AI owns.
And when you see the boss coming towards you, get ready to welcome him. Stop expanding near the boss, make sure you only have one territory he can attack, and emergency blockade that territory with at least 1.5 or 2 times your income. It probably won't be enough to kill him, but chances are he'll attack again the blockade and suffer addionnal damage.
If your expansion is fast enough and you manage to quickly break most of the Asian AI's bonuses, you should be able to complete the level in less than 20 turns.

As for my record in 14 turns... well I was helped two stroked of luck.
First, the spawn appeared in the Azores instead of one of my american territories. So I didn't lose any army or any bonus, and I was able to get rid of the spawn in one attack.
Second, instead of staying in Finland and fleeing to Baltic States like he usually does, the European AI went to Norway. So I met him when I took Sweden and I was able to eliminate him on turn 7 rather than on turn 9.
The combination of the two allowed me to use more armies on expansion and to end this game in 14 turns. :)

If someone is as lucky as I was and doesn't make a single mistake during expansion, I think that record can be broken and the level completed in 13 turns.

I really love the single player challenge but think World War Pixel isn't the right ending. It seems just hard for the sake of being hard rather than a challenge to solve and beat. Like, you need several random and unlikely things to happen in Round 4 and 5 or you will lose. So you play it over and over, hoping for the random to fall in your favor, then start over when it doesn't. Of the dozens of times I've played so far, my favorite was when I died around Round 11 because of my own mistake and not some randomness falling the wrong way. Again, I LOVE the majority of the levels and have been recommending this to friends. I probably won't finish World War Pixel, though, as it lacks the fun I get from most of the other levels.

Strange. I finished it on the first try, and it seemed very difficult but manageable. (The original Insane Challenge was much harder, in my opinion - I was never able to finish it.)

I just got to it and beat it on my first try in 31 turns, and honestly didn't have much stress for the majority of the game..

yeah, I just found the blog post saying it and the other boss battles got easier.
pity, they were a bit of prestige in the SP matches.. I think making them optional prior to moving on, as a prestige point would of been better, as opposed to making them easy so more parties could finish it.
