And I am in European History Heaven. The Crusades, Poland's History, Rome's downfall, Tacitus' Annals, 1066, etc.

I hit the jackpot! I'm curious to know what goodies were taken before I got there. I saw some South American History, but by the time I went back to the library, all the good ones were gone.

There were so many good books that my friends and I shook hands on a "share the Loot" pact. One found this Bible-and-a-half sized book on only President Andrew Jackson. I can't believe I want to read.

There are many books online already, but a disappointing amount. I have some good books from sales, one I particularly recommend for folk who like history is "Devil's Propoganda" - making Adolf Hitler and Tojo Hideki seem like good folk who were just misunderstood, while making cool folk like Norman Borlaug and Erwin Rommel seem bad. And it's all true, what they say.

One truth in particular:

Hitler gave 90% his income to the German Hurt Worker's Fund.

Hitler was a great man. Great doesn't always mean good, but no one can deny Adolf Hitler his greatness. He bumrushed Europe and made his country great again. If he didn't kill millions he would be praised today.

without the whole 2nd world war and Holocaust, I think Hitler would have been praised as a leader who brought his country from weakness to prosperity. Like a German FDR almost, but without the polio.

How do you get people to praise central planning and socialism? Paint it red, white and black.

The winners write the past, that's why Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt and Iosif Stalin are so respected, even though they are all total bulk-murdering militarist filth.

No one respects Stalin in my area. The Holodomor needs to be talked about much more, though. There was this tour guide at the Smithsonian who didn't even know what the Holodomor was. Sad.

And if the winners write the past, someone needs to tell the American South to shut the hell up.

http://www.rawstory.com/2016/03/more-than-half-of-russians-call-stalin-a-wise-leader-poll/

71 percent of Russians agreed that “whatever mistakes or sins are attributed to Stalin, the most important thing is that he led our people to victory in World War II.”

Asked whether they agreed with the view that Stalin was a “brutal tyrant” who killed millions, 62 percent said yes, while 23 percent disagreed.

Well, I can kind of see why some might like him as a historical figure. The same thing happens in the States with Andrew Jackson. We like to joke about him being such a badass and the like. But to see Stalin the same way I feel like more time should pass. Whatever.
