Fallout 4, Bethesda, and hope.: 6/13/2016 05:31:29

So I've been checking stuff out about Fallout 4 (I refrained a lot, because I didn't have the money for it.) and to my utter horror, Bethesda simplified Fallout 3's template even more. Fallout 3, had many things wrong about it, and was pretty simple. Obsidian was given the job of making Fallout New Vegas, and improved most aspects of the former, stuck to the lore of the first two, and didn't have a boss that could be defeated with "You're wrong, kys.".

I expected Bethesda to emulate the game that was loved by both the original fallout fans and the Bethesda fallout fans, but instead, it dumbed down everything in the game, had a map that can be crossed in 11 minutes from one side to the other, and broke the lore and theme of the game. This is a very poor preformance, considering that with six less years, no help from another game developer and considerably less money to develop the game, Obsidian made a game that is superior in most ways. Shameful display.

Also, it seems to have a theme of "Pre-war America was great, war is honorable, and we should restore pre-war America.", with you living a great life and being a soldier that's proud of your service in the Sino-American war. You're proud of your great grandfather (a WW2 veteran) and greatful for the nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. War never changes is now just something Bethesda puts on shirts.

Pre-war America was a nationalistic, authoritarian mess, with riots and famine. The first thing you see in Fallout 1 is a US soldier executing a Canadian and the News labeling it "keeping the peace in Canada". It has a clear anti-war message. When it said war never changes, it didn't mean it as in "War is cool" but as in "War is awful".

Fallout New Vegas changed it to "War never changes, but men do, through the roads they walk". Which added a Tolstoy-esque nature to the quote. As in, you can't change other's behavior through violence, so move on and change yourself. They also added "Begin again" in the dead money DLC, which stressed moving on from old feuds and obsessions, as it was destructive.

This might be the most disgusting thing about Fallout 4. It's glorifying what Fallout one stood up to.

However, there is some hope for Fallout. Since most folk who played Fallout 3 and 4 also played New Vegas in-between them, they got a taste of what Fallout should be like. And now, when shoveled paltry sums of dumbed down, non-RPG, filth, many are revolting against Bethesda. That, that is some hope for Fallout.

I remember when we played D&D with sheets of paper and stuff. Times have changed, MOBA's re-defined the genre, but there's always the want for an adventure game that has a beautiful, detailed yet straightforward set of mechanics. Fallout NV did good, but i think D&D with my buddies is where it'll always be at.

So what I get is you hate the message of the game compared to the others and no the fact that 4 is just a piss poor fallout game in almost every way.

Also the Cabot house... Just..... a magical helmet, aliens made humans, the family is four hundred years old, and there's a alien city under New Vegas and Iraq. This is quite possibly the biggest offense Bethesda committed.

Meh it's ok. I should have complained a lot more about the story instead of solely the message anyway ^_^
