So I know, another Iron curtain map. However, I feel as if this update is really needed. The Iron curtain 2.0 is currently my single most popular map on warlight, and it even recently won map of the week. This is as bit surprising, given that as far as my maps go, it is actually one of the worse ones that I've released IMO.

Obviously the biggest problem is that the map just looks really sloppy due to the crude methods I used for making it combined with an unnecessary amount of simplifying, with the clearest example of this being borders between bonuses. While I haven't completely rectified this issue as that isn't really possible without completely redoing the map, the borders are greatly improved from previous versions.

Another issue was that I didn't do nearly enough research for certain parts of the map, so these sections ended up being just completely wrong geographically or otherwise. I decided to just completely redo the following sections of the map due to this:

Switzerland
Yugoslavia
All four occupation zones in Berlin
The Netherlands
Scotland
Portugal
Albania

It's possible that there are still sections of the map affected by this, so if you see any please let me know :)

I also decided to diversify the color scheme a little bit, since the red/blue thing was a bit boring. But do let me know about this, as I'm not entirely sure if it was the right thing to do.

Lastly is the addition of an actual "Iron Curtain" to break connections between NATO and warsaw pact nations. This was suggested by nathan in his review of the iron curtain 2.0, and I thought it was a pretty cool idea, so I've implemented it. I'm honestly not sure how it's going to affect gameplay though.

If you see any names that need correcting please let me know, as I'm also trying to fix those in this update. And I will be doing a quick test game to test out the barrier idea, so let me know if you want in on that.

and just Novo mesto>Novo Mesto
all of the changes i proposed are based on which city is more significant,not racialy or religiously motivated

Althought it's an interesting idea, I don't like the "actual iron curtain" idea at all, it makes it impossible to have an actual "Cold War gone hot" scenario. I'd personally like to have it removed, or at least put some "checkpoints" like in Berlin so both sides won't be completely cut off.

Some countries(eg. Portugal, Albania) has too few territories compared to others with unnecessary many territories(eg. Finland, Sweden), I'd suggest to add more territories to those underpresented countries.

"Gerede" in the middle of Turkey is not part of the country bonus, also a lot territory names there are either misspelled or misplaced. I can help you on that part if you want.

Can you change Switzerland's inner bonuses according to their language map?(just combine Italian and Romansch to one bonus):
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bc/English-language_version_of_Linguistic_map_of_Switzerland.png
because, well, reasons. *Gaddafi intensifies*

No "Brussels" in Belgium either, would be good to squeeze a circular territory to the middle of Belgium.

Other than those, great work on the remake! The map certainly is more polished and pleasant to look at.

The last Iron Curtain Map DID have check points leading to the outside of E Germany, I don't know why he changed that. I personally liked that idea. But I guess he didn't.

+1. Should have a dot if not territory for every capital.

Like the new Switzerland now. Before it was just a 5 bonus. now has separate territories AND country bonus, could throw a separate slot in now.

Love your maps @Imperator. U do good. and when do u plan on making another WorldOfNations2016 map....?

I'll definitely try out putting checkpoints. One thing I found interesting was that there actually was a very intricate border between east and west germany similar to the one in berlin:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inner_German_border

"Gerede" in the middle of Turkey is not part of the country bonus, also a lot territory names there are either misspelled or misplaced. I can help you on that part if you want.

Yeah, I'd definitely appreciate that. Currently the territory names (With the exception of germany where someone is helping me out in PM) are just ported over from The Iron Curtain 2.0, which means there's probably a whole bunch of wrong names/typos.

Some countries(eg. Portugal, Albania) has too few territories compared to others with unnecessary many territories(eg. Finland, Sweden), I'd suggest to add more territories to those underpresented countries.

I'll redo portugal and albania, although to be honest these seem like the only places that this is applicable to. Perhaps I'll split up some of the larger russian bonuses?

Can you change Switzerland's inner bonuses according to their language map?(just combine Italian and Romansch to one bonus):

It's kind of eh. I guess I could, but all the sections except for the german one would be pretty tiny and weird looking.

Riesland in The Netherlands is Friesland..

Amsterdam could be Noord-Holland
The Hague could/should be South Holland

Thanks, I'll get these fixed :)

Wow, thanks for such a long list, and also not basing it on some serb slant or anything :) I know there is still some animosity in the former yugoslav republics, and being from the area I'm sure you're much more familiar with it than I am.

The last Iron Curtain Map DID have check points leading to the outside of E Germany, I don't know why he changed that. I personally liked that idea. But I guess he didn't.

THe sctructure of territories/checkpoints in berlin is identical. He's referring to the inner german border, which is a new addition in this version.

Like the new Switzerland now. Before it was just a 5 bonus. now has separate territories AND country bonus, could throw a separate slot in now.

I'm glad you like it :) The previous switzerland was just a bit lazy to be honest, now I feel as if it's actually getting the amount of territories it deserves. And as stewie mentioned, both portugal and albania could be redone for this reason as well.

Love your maps @Imperator. U do good. and when do u plan on making another WorldOfNations2016 map....?

I could maybe see it sometime down the road, but I'm totally occupied with my giant world map right now (I took a break for a few weeks to work on this update), so it will definitely be a while at least.

Looks a lot nicer than the previous ones! good job

Thanks! Honestly that is the biggest change, making it look nicer :P

double check Western Austria, you have a territory in Austria named Tyrol but is not part of the actual Tyrol bonus which it is today. Sound confusing but just double check and rename the small dot to something else( maybe Lienz).

Plus have u thought about putting passageways between E-W Germany and Bulgaria-Turkey. I dont know about BUL-TUK but the German borders u could go through.

A couple of name changes you could make in Bulgaria to emphasize the more major cities:

- Switch the places of Sofia and Pirdop.
- Pirdop then should be renamed Pernik.
- Carna should be Varna
- Mazadra should be Montana
- Dolni should be Pleven
- Dulovo should be Silistra
- Razgrad can be renamed to Ruse
- Shudem is mispelled and should be Shumen
- Karmanli should be Slivengrad
- Podkova should be Kurdjali
- Podkova I should be Smolyan
- Sadanski is mispelled and should be Sandanski

The names in Belarus are very bad...what the crap is a "Byelorussian"? Or a Minskaja? It was the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic, as for the inner boni (makes it into an adjector), or if you want to keep it, at least do -aya (that's how it actually is), although just do the borough names they're based upon better yet. Some other mistakes:

hrodna -> Hrodna
kaunas -> Kaunas
Cisinau -> Chișinău
Talinn -> Tallinn
Saare-Makond -> Moonsund Archipelago (also, if you're going to add those islands, why not add the biggest island in the Baltic Sea, Gotland?)
Skane -> Skåne
Vastra Gotaland -> Västra Götaland
Orebro -> Örebro
Gavleborg -> Gävleborg
Jamtland -> Jämtland
Vasterbotten -> Västerbotten
Nizhny Novgorod (bonus and land) -> Gorki

Also, in the Stockholm-Uppsala site - I think you should add ties all over that bay, since they do in real life (bridges and such) far more than they do to say, Uppsalla to Moonsund. Also this map looks really lakeless. It looks weird without Ladoga and the Swedish Waters, and all the holes in Karelia. And it's also kind of islandless. Where are the Hebrides? Faeroe islands? Aland islands? Dalmatian islands? They don't need to become their own lands neededly, but it looks weird without them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byelorussian_Soviet_Socialist_Republic

"Minskaja" Is just "Minsk" in Belarusian (although I'm not really sure why I used belarusian instead of english...):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minsk_Region

It was the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic

What's a "Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic"?

as for the inner boni (makes it into an adjector), or if you want to keep it, at least do -aya (that's how it actually is)

I believe that -aya is russian, whereas -aja is belarusian. Since both were official languages in the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic I don't see any reason to prefer one over the other, except for the possible one that the place is actually called "Belarus" and not "Russia".

although just do the borough names they're based upon better yet. Some other mistakes:

Cool, I'll get these fixed up. There's probably a whole bunch of ones where I forgot to capitalize the first letter, so thanks for letting me know about those :)

Also, in the Stockholm-Uppsala site - I think you should add ties all over that bay, since they do in real life (bridges and such) far more than they do to say, Uppsalla to Moonsund.

Yeah I can add two or three connections maybe, but I'm not sure if you can consider that "all over that bay"... :P

I'm pretty sure I deleted all of the lakes/islands on 1.0 since I was a noob and couldn't deal with big files. I can totally add some lakes and islands back in now though.

so here's my name fixes for Turkey;

Territory(West to East)

Sarkoy -> Gelibolu
Edime -> Edirne
Koceali -> European(Western) Istanbul
Istanbul -> Bosphorus(Strait)
Yalova -> Asian(Eastern) Istanbul
Adapazan -> Kocaeli
Bilicek -> Sakarya
Bursa I -> Yalova
Biserlek -> İznik
Susurluk -> Bursa
Bandrima -> Bandırma
Bursa -> Biga
Akhister -> Akhisar
Milas -> Marmaris
Demiroi -> Demirci
Fethya -> Fethiye
Serik -> Cumra
Eregli I -> Ereğli
Ortakay -> Ortaköy
Ihlara -> Nevşehir
Ortakoy -> Sarıkaya
Ankara -> Kırıkkale
Emirdag -> Ankara
Qubuk -> Kızılcahamam
Seriflokochisar -> Haymana
Karman -> Şereflikoçhisar
kulu -> Kulu
Polati -> Alpu
Bolvadin I -> Eskişehir
Emirdag I -> İnönü

Bonuses

Kuthya -> Kütahya
Esikehir -> Eskişehir

Also I suggest you split up "West Marmara" and "Mediterrean" bonuses;
"West Marmara" -> Trakya(the 3 territories north of Marmara Sea) and Balıkesir(the 4 territories south of it)
"Mediterrean" -> Antalya(the first 4 western territories) and Mersin(the last 4 eastern territories)

Also on Cyprus, renaming the northern territory to "Famagusta" and the southern territory to "Nicosia" is more proper - or you can just name them Northern & Southern Cyprus.

Come to think of it, I actually think Cyprus needs more love; the island was target of a Turkish intervention in the Cold War, so it's an important area for this era.

that'd be enough really, it's not like the island is big itself. At least an extra 2 territories won't kill.

if it's too small in the map, I wouldn't mind artifically enlargening it slightly either, but some may not like it of course.

Ferrari --> Bolzano
Beltuno --> Treviso
