Have you ever wondered how a stack of 1000 armies can fit in an island that's barely visible on the map? And we're not even talking about 1000 people, we are talking (typing :P) about 1000 armies...

Anyway, my suggestion is simple: if the option is enabled for the game, territories receive a limit of armies that can be in that territory at the same time. That island you don't know if it's a territory or just dust on your screen when you zoom out the map entirely? It couldn't hold more than 50 armies, now could it? While that Siberia territory – well... here's where 1000 armies would go. Basically what this would do is make your position on the map way more important than it is now. If you're, say, in Antarctica, you wouldn't be able to just put all your armies in a small island, but rather use an airlift card to get them through, or simply move them in small stacks one at a time. If you are in the USA and need to cross the Atlantic Ocean, you won't be able to just annihilate the enemy in Europe simply because you've got 3 times his income. You won't be able to deploy more than, say, 50 armies per island, while he'll be able to deploy 200 armies per territory – just like it's in real life. This would also result in vicious battles for just a single land territory, as this would mean airlift could be used to transfer all the armies that are behind the lines – again, just like in real life. This could also eventually result in a new card – something like "Navy support", which would increase the number of armies that you can put in the said territory (because there will be ships with troops around it or something like that).

I'd say this should be applied only for islands, as land territories are usually big enough in real life. Perhaps the game's creator could determine how many armies one can put in such a territory, if the option is even enabled for the game. Or maybe the map creators could set a recommended limit of armies that can be overwritten but gives an idea of how big the island is.

well, limiting army count territory by territory would be clumsy for big maps as there'll be hundreds of territories to adjust this data for, not to mention more memory usage which something Fizzer avoids.

combining this with total army limit could somewhat achieve what you are asking for.

I think it would be easy to rig. You could make a diplo with your places having no limit and the enemies having a limit of like 10. Still, +1

Deployment limits would probably be among the best alternatives.

Although I do like the idea, what Stewie said just about sums it up

I wouldn't say there'll be hundreds of territories to adjust the data for, as I only mean islands, and there are hardly more than 20 on an average map. Issander's huge world map would be an issue, true, but one could always turn this option off when creating games.
