BUFFALO, you wrote

I already explained this.

Do the lights seem as though they are sinking lower? Yes, but they remain at the same height!

It's an illusion!

^Full detailed explanation here!

Was this meant to be a reply to my post? Where I dismissed your earlier post (and video) as failing to execute the experiment I described?

Once again, a proof that the world is NOT flat can be derived by watching a ship sail away from you over the horizon with a sufficiently powerful telescope. The "illusions" you describe are not illusions, but perspective. As for the vanishing point concept one of your most recent links describe, they themselves write

It has been found that the sinking ship effect effect [can be] purely perceptual, that a good telescope with sufficient zoom will change the observer's perspective and bring the ship's hull back in full view.

I don't deny that optical illusions can occur where objects at a distance can not be resolved with the naked eye. But if one actually does the experiment I described, where one observes a ship sailing over the horizon with a powerful enough telescope, there is no problem with perception. Rather, quite clearly the surface of the earth is curved, not flat.

Here is another experiment that you can do to prove that the Earth is not flat.

Go to the North Pole with a co-scientist. The magnetic North Pole would be best. Each of set off directly away from one another from the North Pole. Perhaps even mark the direction you're heading. Now each of you should head directly towards the magnetic South Pole without turning. This is easy enough to do, given a compass. When you get to the South Pole stop. Assuming your co-scientist is travelling at the same approximate speed, he/she will arrive at about the same time.

So, the two of you left one point in opposite directions and traveled straight to another point. This can not happen on a flat surface, as only a single straight line connects to points on a plane. But it can happen on a curved surface.

Now if you go back to the North Pole, you can repeat the experiment, setting off at right angles to your previous headings, and once again, traveling straight, you will both arrive at the South Pole. You can repeat the experiment on various points throughout the Earth demonstrating the Earth is a sphere.
