It's just a term people created to generalize separate right-wing groups to create an identity politic. Some say it is a reaction to Feminism, but it's obvious that a lot of the movements are spurred from anger at the mainstream right wing ignoring them or possibly doing disservice to the cause.

Either way, it's still imprecise to refer to the many groups as one entity; many are distanced from each other and have polarizing views. The only similar quality is they are mostly reactionary movements to mainstream right-wing junk.

So I'll say again ; stop generalizing a vastly district set of entities and pin down wtf you're talking about.

Opinion on the alt right: The only guidelines to me if something is alt right or not, is if it's racist, collectivist, and the folk identify as alt right. If it is, it is alt right.

Frankly, we already have a racist and collectivist party in America (the democrats), and if you want to be serious, we've already had actual fascist presidents (FDR, Woodrow Wilson). So all I can say to the alt right is: We already had you and you suck, bye.
