i recall someone saying he can get #1 on the ladder if only he tried. I cant... remember... the name... it was...sounded something like... j..s...a.

hey that sounds like you! you dont happen to have made such a claim in the past did you?

anyway, now that you have regained control over this account, does that mean you'll start playing those games again?

Not if I tried, if I focused. I realized focus mattered a lot to me back then but didn't realize how much it mattered to others as well. Look at brisk, one of the best players in the game, and not even top 20 in the ladder. I would call that a lack of focus.

And yeah, I'll play the last 2-3 games or so, no reason not to. I'm a bit rusty but not too much so I should be near top form. We'll just have to see how it goes :)

And honestly guys, I don't care about proving myself anymore. My join into [Lynx] has acheived what I had hoped, I enjoy warlight much more than I did before. Rather than focusing all my effort into proving myself to people, I can just play for fun.

you cought the bait above my expectations :) Relax Jay

as for your claims - i think it was in the noobschool thread.. but nevermind. It was a long time ago, i might have recalled something badly..

Gui said RRs tent to reduce players' interest over time.. but at the same time, those are by far better for testing the skill of participants as the luck factor decreases with every other game you play, and let's say incompatibility or vulnerability to some playstyles is not a factor.. To give you an example - Pulsey improved a lot the last few months but earlier he could have won against many good players just because his playstyle was completely based on counters to a very unusual extent.. Which in single or double elimination would ehmm.. eliminate the opponent... in RR however his win would not affect the overall score of any player.. For this and a number of other reasons i hope the league will be continued in the current form, but with differing templates like it used to be back in 2011 etc..

As for my performance so far - I am very surprised, and i feel i will end up a LOT lower than i am right now - especially now, when i am completely out of shape, and totally not focussed - so don't take anything i say as a form of bragging over you or something since we're alike on this field i guess..

Hmm, that's a good point with the round robin tournament. I'm just not too interested in organizing it. Especially since I did get booted in nearly all of my 1v1 games this season. But now that I think about it more, it might be worth doing. I'll help organize it again, but I'll also have other options.

And yeah, you surprised me in your 1v1's especially :)

So [20] events in season 5 (next season):

1. Strategic 1v1 Playoffs (starting soon)
2. Round Robin Tournaments (adjusting to different settings)
3. (Something else, not sure what yet)

For the Round Robin Tournaments (the traditional [20]), I would like to implement a rule that once a player is in [20A], they cannot be taken out without 2 seasons in a row where they finish in the bottom 25%. Only unknownsoldier and Lobstrosity are elgible to possibly be taken out of [20A] for Season 5. Any retired players (dunga this season) will also be taken out of [20A]. I also will throw out that I will not be competing in this.

This means that for next season, the [20A] members for sure (as long as they wish to compete) will be:

JUPITER
Mannerheim
TeddyFSB
Fridge
Gnuffone
Timinator
Anonymous
Frankdeslimste
Falker
Heyheuhei
EZPickens
Old Surehand
Marc
Longhouse
dreuj
Piggy
Summer (the winner of B)

This leaves 3 spots open if unknownsoldier and lobstrosity do not finish in the top 12. For those final 3 spots, there will be a select amount of players elgible for the places and will be found using a playoff system similar to the Strategic 1v1 Playoffs.

The players that can compete in this if they wish to compete in [20A] next season are:
grona (he could have joined A last season if he wished)
Lobstrosity and/or unknownsoldier if they do not finish in the top 12 this season
Zibik (same as grona, famous player)
Oliebol (success on 1v1 ladder)
Schmidt (success on 1v1 ladder)
Synesthesia (success on 1v1 ladder)
Flyingburrito (all-around success)
Mirror (success on 1v1 ladder)
Yeon (seasonal Ladder)
Ruthless Bastard (seasonal ladder)
abr (all-around)
Widzisz (1v1 Ladder, famous player)
ACL Tears (1v1 and seasonal ladders)
Ko (seasonal ladder)
TheWarlightMaster (seasonal ladder)
Tenshi (all-around)
Retrospecka jeza (1v1 ladder)
Green Beret (low-key, his last 5 tournaments show him avidly competing for first with [20A] participants and [20A] candidates)

I have 19 total people on this list, I am aiming for exactly 16. Once the participants are finalized, I will make a pool play similar to the world cup. 4 players in each pool, all play each other twice. 4 winners + 4 runner-ups advance to the next round. Same thing in Round 2. In Round 3, the remaining 4 particpants battle it out for each place.

Also, if unknown or lobs finishes outside of top 12 in [20A] and doesn't compete or make it in this, they are allowed to challenge the player that will take their place in a best of 5 series. This is to ensure that the player must be better than them to take their place, and allows them an extra chance since they have formerly been in [20A].

I have to disagree on Green Beret. 'Low key' or not, I don't honestly find him as impressive as any of the other players on that list. I also hate to rag on TWM, but I also doubt he is ready as his 2v2 and 3v3 skills aren't that impressive. I think you're overestimating both these players for a league that is comprised of all 3 aspects, 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3.

I would argue more people on that list, but I think it's pretty apparent that if you allow the bottom tier of that list you're allowing for way too much criticism for others to stake a claim. For example, given the pool you just announced, Gambler would actually fit in with that crowd. So would Verzehrer and Kryzchu.

Krzychu won out a live tourney weekend with good templates and showed mastery of one template, he has a mid-range ladder rank due to having over 150 games counting to his score.

Verzehrer is just good at 1v1, I really don't know him outside of that but he has some impressive wins on the ladder.

Lolowut, I doubt either Green Beret or WarlightMaster has the talent to finish high with this group. I was going off of top 10 in seasonal, top 10 in 1v1 ladder. I have seen both Krzychu and Verzehrer play, and neither of them could have a chacne at making it to Round 3 here I think. There's gonna be disagreements no matter who I pick.

I gave Green Beret the chance because he has had strong tournament showings and is a nonmember so has not been able to show his 1v1 skills on the ladder. Verzerher and Krzychu Gambler have, and none of the three's statistics are overly impressive. Good but not [20A] quality. Better to go with unknown, than to go with guys who I know will be in bottom half of the list.

I personally think Mirror, Zibik, grona, Yeon, abr, and Ruthless Bastard are the main guys with the chance of making [20A], but it's worth giving the others a chance.

If I give no non-ladder players a chance, it adds little to [20], while if they at least have a chance to prove whether they can compete against high level ladder players, they are given a fair chance. Non-ladder players can gain very little glory on warlight and are left out from many things because of it.

Why was Yeon so underrated by many people in the past (including myself)? It's because he never proved his skills in the ladder or [20]. He played in the seasonal ladder and won it, and now people realize he's great. Same with Norway in the Nation's Cup. The previous winners were not even ranked in the top 8 by the people's votes! It's becasue their plaeyrs were not well known like others were. You have to give people a chance.

Brain, not really win a tourney, but yes, if you want A League, you have to finish well in a playoff type system. It ensures that only the best are admitted.

Neither of the candidates have done anything overly impressive though. As for Yeon I thought he was impressive at 2v2 when paired up with Mian and then Aziridine, figured that was blatantly obvious.

Green Beret and TWM cannot pull off what Krzychu pulled off. TWM has been involved with multiple WGL weekend tournaments and has never netted a win on both 1v1 and 2v2 back to back. Krzychu shows long-term commitment to the ladder and has a better record than both combined with top players. My point is you've presented 2 candidates that are not ready to be considered candidates. I'm not arguing that they cannot win this tourney. I cannot make that determination. I am arguing that they do not show consistent ability to be honored with such an honor.

I mean both of them no offense. Everyone I have mentioned are only examples though. I'm merely pointing out it's almost criminal to consider these people, yet not also consider people at or above their skill level. People who have CONSISTENTLY shown to be above their skill level, should be allowed to play as well.

Pyrrhus (Gambler).

with a bit of luck, anyone who has ever reached top 20 in the ladder is capable of beating every player on this site.
