Jamal, I'm a far leftist, and I also value freedom of speech, in the spirit of Voltaire. I have uv'd several posts from right-wing posters because regardless of whether I agreed with them or not, they were/are legit topics. I've even uv'd some of Fissel's posts that were genuinely non-spam, even though I consider him/her a persistent spammer/troll.

If more people were principled in their voting, the forums would dramatically increase in quality, IMO. That especially includes protecting controversial but meaningful topics from getting dv'd into obscurity. But it also necessarily means keeping meaningless noise to a minimum.

Cdr Vimes, I just uv'd that thread. It still reqires more uvs, though.

Feel free to discuss this in a different post. I will defend such posts if they contribute to the usefulness/value of the forums (which I feel that most threads do, by default). In this post however, that discussion is an off-topic derail and degrades the signal-to-noise ratio of this thread. Therefore, I have been downvoting such off-topic comments within this thread (including off-topic responses from Cdr Vimes, btw, just fyi).
