English isn't my first language. Sorry in advance.
If I said anything wrong about colorblindness correct me and I'll be forever grateful and give you points for heaven.
--------------------
**I hold the flag of the colorblind people.**
--------------------
**For those of you who are unaware of the condition, colorblind people simply cannot differentiate between certain colors. In contrast to the common thought most colorblind do see colors, and only a fraction suffers from black and white colorblindness. The most common colorblindness is red-green, which I happen to have.**

Seriously though, I am colorblind. I like WARLIGHT.
Why should people like me have it harder?
A lot of games use colors.
That's fine with me. But if a game is based on colors to an extent, it can annoy.
Let's say I joined a game in which the color of my opponent is very similar to mine.
It would not be as fun to check every territory that's near him whether it his/her or mine.

That being said, I have some suggestions (otherwise I wouldn't be rambling on this).
You can keep the current system, obviously, but just add a few things that'll help us colorblind.

1. Add a shape mode for the colorblind - the colorblind player will get to choose which shapes represent what players without damaging the atmosphere of the game.
2. Another possibility is to let the colorblind choose his color and his opponent(s)'s color himself, so he could adjust the colors to fit his needs.
3. A flag mode - different players will have different unique flags themselves chose from a template or an image.

Either of these is a simple way to help us colorblind and each can be easily implemented.

What do you guys think?

It has been suggested in the past to have 'stripes' as on option, and I think Fizzer agrees with that idea as well. It is just a matter of time, that's all.

use this link: http://warlight.uservoice.com/forums/77051-warlight-features and track down this stripe idea and vote for it.

I can't seem to track down the idea among the hundreds there. Seems it hasn't been accepted or not many people voted for it. Anyway, the stripe idea isn't idea because there is a limit to the variability of the stripes. Or so I've understood. Letting the player customize it's colors seems more helpful.

Anyway, thanks for the link. I'll track it down... Eventually.

I'm definitely for aclient-side option to choose the colors in the game lobby. Even with no color perception disorder, teal/aquagreen/forest, orange/red-orange etc. are no easy distinctions, so what about people who already don't perceive slight nuances very well ? Would solve the problem, I guess.

I like the flag idea! You could just make with ms paint or something a 50*25 pixel flag, that appears next to your number of armies!

And in the meanwhile, you can try clicking on player's name while holding down Control. This will highlight all the territories that players control. Might help a little...

I also have red-green colourblindness and also I suggested in another thread (I believe I was the first to suggest this) an option to change each player's colour client-side. It has cost me dearly in games a number of times and is one of the reasons I play much less in real time games now as I can't deal with it and I have absolutely no control over what colour other players will have. At least in multi-day I have as much time as I need to make sure I am seeing each player correctly.

I like all of the other suggestions but I'm still really attached to the idea of having a colour because, even though I have some colourblindness, I can still see enough to distinguish between many colours and it wouldn't be an issue and would in fact be the preferred method if only I was able to choose what colours I was seeing.

I would love the option of selecting people's colours locally in the game lobby. Definitely my #1 choice for change, if I were to get one change to this game/site!

Agree. I do not have colourblindness myself but sometimes I can be annoyed by colours in the game (like when you are green and the territory borders happened to be green as well and you can't see the boundaries

Client side would also help when your enemies are two slightly different shades of pink. If you could just make one of them bright blue and the other red, you would never mistake them, as is easy to do otherwise.

I wouldn't make it the default, but being able to selectively change some would be nice.

Does anyone (Fizzer, most probably?) know whether it's realistic to hope for this to be implemented? My guess is that it shouldn't be too complicated to let each player choose all the player colours shown locally, but like everything else, it takes programming time.

I'm not colorblind, but I'd shift some of my uservoice votes to this if someone can link me to the specific topic :)

I searched through the list and couldn't find any suggestion, so I made a new one.
