The site me and Azlo work on is considering a view changes. I'm personally pushing very hard for our forum to be made a main option so when people visit the site, they can't miss it. For one it gives people a reason to visit the site, which increases the chances of adds being clicked, which gives us cash. But I think it would be good to start really good political discussions, plus coming November 1th anyone can send in an opinion piece they want to get published. If we like it, we will use it for the opinions section. Anyway, do you think a forum would be used often enough?

It depends on how you want the site to function. If it's intended as a kind of blog or news site, then I would imagine that most of the commenting action would happen in the comments sections for the various articles/posts. Not many commercial sites these days have forums, although there are some exceptions of course.

Personally, I like forums, but it really depends on the community of posters and commenters, IMO. For example, if I don't see many intelligent/skilled posters and commenters, I will have little incentive to put up a post asking some question, as I have little expectation of an intelligent reply. And if it's all a bunch of people of one mindset (e.g. all conservatives or all liberals, or whatever), then it's unlikely I'll bother contributing my own opinion, because it's probably just an echo-chamber anyway.

Forums can be awesome and useful, and like you say they can generate a lot of loyal traffic. So, off the top of my head, I'd say that your idea is a good one. But again, it really depends on how you want your site to work. Generally, I prefer forum-type conversations to blog-post-comment-section-type conversations, but if your site is focused on blog/news articles, then sometimes those comment-sections can be good, too. (In my experience, blog/news comments sections are much more prone to becoming echo-chambers, though.)

^ I follow Fizzer's guidelines when I downvote (see the [?] thing under the thumbs):
You should upvote or downvote based on whether you think the general WarLight community would find the content of this post interesting, enjoyable, or useful. Be careful not to let your own prejudices affect your voting.

IMO, your comments were neither interesting, nor enjoyable, nor useful. If you consider the OP to be spam, then downvote it or report it, don't spam it.
