I didn't stay up to watch, but I, along with a lot of people, were shocked.
Going in, the polls seemed to make it appear as if Trump's chances were slim. As the night went on, people realized one thing in particular: Trump was getting a lot of rural areas. And there might be 10 or 50 votes there, but multiplying that by the hundreds, the thousands even, it creates a very big edge. Trump's Florida victory was amazing. The fact he got Pennsylvania, Michigan, and other midwest states was impressive.
But while some of us revel in victory, or cry in our safe spaces, or ask what the hell America did, Trump is president. Surprising, yes, but unknown. Trump's victory speech was a very different tone, understanding the rift this election made, and genuinely seems like he wants to patch the wound, even if it is just to get himself elected in 2020.
Whether the next four years holds an economic boom or crash, an end to Russian tensions or World War 3, Social Justice growing or falling, it's really up in the air. But I think the idea we take away from this is that it's not the fact that Trump won that's scary. The Republicans have all 3 sections of the government, meaning they can and will get laws passed. And with Trump at the helm, that could mean anything. But I'm certainly not getting dragged into the prison camps like some people would hope. So sorry Paugers and Karl, I'll still be hanging around.
So to all the non-Americans, I suggest keeping an eye on what's across the ocean for a while. Either way, it will be worth seeing. And to my fellow inhabitants of the USA, let's make America Great Again.

I go to a Christian Academy... in rural Virginia (you know... the 'good' part), and the halls of the school were rampant with applause and cheer this morning.
