Clan League 9 Templates

Clan League Document: https://goo.gl/xT2dzg ("Template Voting" sheet)

The templates that will be put up to vote by the clans have been chosen. As specified 12 1v1 templates, 6, 2v2 templates, and 4 3v3 templates are now up for vote.

A huge thanks to Buns157, master of desaster, and Motoki for pruning the original submissions to this shortlist. They looked at each submitted template very carefully. If they weren't familiar with a template they played a game (or more) on it so that they could judge it fairly. It was a time consuming process and we really appreciated the seriousness with which they approached it.

Voting
  • Clan leaders in Groups A and B will order these templates from 1-12 with 1 being most preferred and 12 being least. We will resolve these votes using the Single Transferable Voting system. The top 6 1v1, 3 2v2 and 2 3v3 templates will be used in CL9.

  • Clan leaders in the Qualifier groups (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4) will order these templates from 1-12 with 1 being "want to see it in Stage 1" and 12 being "want to see it in Stage 2".
    • All votes for the templates discarded as part of the voting process(involving A and B) will not be considered.
    • From the remaining votes, we again use STV to determine which templates are used in Stage 1 and 2 respectively based on the votes from the Qualifier clans.
The deadline for votes will be January 7th.

This gives clans nearly 3 weeks to submit their votes. Any clan which has not voted by then will forfeit its vote. NO EXCEPTIONS. It is the clan's responsibility to vote, not the organizers' responsibility to chase them down.

All clan leaders should follow this pattern with their submissions.

    Sample Vote
    1. 1v1 Guiroma
    2. 1v1 Strat Greece
    3. 1v1 Old Strat ME
    4. 1v1 French Brawl
    5. 1v1 Battle Islands V
    6. 1v1 Malvia
    7. 1v1 Elitist Africa
    8. 1v1 Laketown
    9. 1v1 Belarus
    10. 1v1 Volcano Island
    11. 1v1 Phobia
    12. 1v1 Yin'angzhou

    1. 2v2 Final Earth
    2. 2v2 Strat ME
    3. 2v2 Szeurope
    4. 2v2 Guiroma
    5. 2v2 Cookies
    6. 2v2 China

    1. 3v3 Deadman's Rome
    2. 3v3 India
    3. 3v3 Africa
    4. 3v3 Europe

Only 6 1v1, 3 2v2 and 2 3v3 templates get chosen. So make sure you put your most preferred templates early. In this example, if I had my own way, I would have elected Guiroma, Strat Greece, Old Strat ME, French Brawl, Battle Islands V and Malvia(my 1-6) as my 1v1 templates.

Please make sure that you follow these guidelines, so as to make our jobs easier.
    • Provide your votes in order. Highest preference at the top of your list.
    • Use the same template name as everyone else. It'll help us sort votes later.
    • Number every template even if you do not wish to vote on them
    • Do not wait until the last minute to send in your votes. If there are any mistakes with your votes, the earlier you send them, the sooner we can correct you. Once the deadline has passed, we will ignore all votes which do not adhere to this format.
    • Private message your votes to both these players before the deadline.

This is how STV is characterized, right? You have limit for winners, and surplus(above limit) votes of winners are transferred.

What will happen when the last 2 templates finish with a 7-7 record each? will the Lynx (winner A) vote be the one that decides which of the 2 templates it will be or will the actual position on each list be looked at and whichever one is higher on average will be the template that will be played

Master of the Dead showed me this video to explain the STV process. I recommend watching it as it may answer some questions people have.

From what was explained to me, the quotas for each template type will be:
    • 1v1: (14/(6+1))+1 = 3
    • 2v2: (14/(3+1)+1 = 4.5
    • 3v3: (14/(2+1))+1 = 5.67

I think those are the quotas for selecting templates, correct me if I don't know how to do grade school math. A template in the first round gets 3 votes or more and its automatically a selected template and excess votes are redistributed. Knowing the quotas going in is important for the clans.

@linberson, we will be using the Gregory method for reallocating surplus votes.

We'll use the Gregory method of surplus allocation.

What will happen when the last 2 templates finish with a 7-7 record each? will the Lynx (winner A) vote be the one that decides which of the 2 templates it will be or will the actual position on each list be looked at and whichever one is higher on average will be the template that will be played
Two templates cannot finish 7-7. If they do, their votes will be redistributed. Think of it as there being a total of 14 votes. Everyone has one "whole" vote. After the template you voted for has been selected/discarded, the "part" of your vote above the quota is redistributed(as a fraction). However, there can be a fractional tie during resolution. We ran simulations of the CL8 vote and didn't observe it once. If it does happen, our program will resolve the tie randomly.

let's just do an example with 4 templates being A-D (3v3 scenario)
    A - 4 votes
    B - 5 votes
    C - 1 vote
    D - 4 votes

So in this case the C vote would get redistributed and this case for the example it will go to B making it
    A - 4 votes
    B - 6 votes
    D - 4 votes

Now template B is the first template to be played in the but the votes on B will get redistributed over the last 2 template and those will be evenly spread making both A and D have 7 votes in total.

I wouldn't say this is a flow in the system but this might be the case since we got so few that are actually voting and you might get in 1v1's for example 2 votes on 7 different templates to begin with making it basically impossible to decide which of the 7 has to be left out since they don't meet the quota of 3 but there also aren't any votes to redistribute.

This could happen. But it's not a certainty. It didn't happen once with the CL8 votes iirc. But if it does happen, we're currently planning on using randomness. We could use other metrics like average rating of the two templates etc, but that would require changes in the program and rerunning all the simulations just to make sure it has no bugs. Not sure if I'm too keen on that, unless you insist.

Last season something like this was less likely to happen due to the odd number of votes that would be coming in so it's less likely something like this actually would happen if i'm looking at it that way

True. Another reason was the large number of templates that meant the vote was split more and so there were clear winners.

This is disgusting. Very very disgusting.

    "1v1 Old Strat ME"
You mean like which one? 18% WR? The one without a blockade card? What for? Did you see results of CL8 template voting?? Nobody wants to play that garbage LMAO.

No LD, MA, army cap, no-split, commanders? Only WR is the outdated ladder template (NOT EVEN British Raj? I guess that was not popular enough from events like RPCL or Captain's League, as opposed to likes of Malvia or Laketown)? What's that, Vanilla League?

And again, which of the Final Earth proposed got in? Jeez what a noob chose those templates, map name supposed to tell everything about how it plays -.-

FOUR 3v3 templates to choose from? There is, like, one good 3v3 template in existence, are you kidding?

Not to mention Le Texas absent. That's very nonstrategic and nondexterous of the panel!

That's the most ridiculous thing I've read on WL forums since WG signup to CL9. Thanks for your attention.

@onoma: all template links are in the submission for templates thread and all include an example game with the correct settings as they are being used (in that thread you also find information about the cards)

For the commanders the reason is simple. The league will be running on a custom CLOT which means every player in the tournament has to be able to create the games themselves and commanders being a member specific feature is excluded from the competition because of this.
