Ok so you have played warlight for a while. You feel you have become pretty decent at the game. You have plenty of 'big wins' under your belt, you have done well in tournaments or other competitions and you have been fairly consistent in at least playing well against other players even if you're not winning every single game.

But then suddenly you start slipping, you are losing to those kindly noobs with big hearts that you normally would have beaten, and this leads to a drop in confidence. With this drop in confidence your playstyle becomes desultory, but then as time passes things return back to normal and you are winning the same way you used to.

Of course this story is slightly exaggerated but does anybody here have any similar stories? :)

If this happens, try to play less just following your instinct and think more :) practise helps a lot, but never forget to rethink your decisions.

This has happened to me. Taking a short break from WL for a while helps.

Nah man this happens way more often than you think.

For me, it's become a thing so many times that I call it a "strat-swing". It's similar to mood swing and comes by every now and then.

When it happens, all I can say is get some sleep, take a big rest, and wait until when you wake up fresh and new again tomorrow to start committing orders.

There are ways to detect early on if your entering a strat-swing too, like hesitating a lot when committing orders, barely having confidence in pressing commit, second-guessing everything etc.

When a strat-swing definitely occurs is after you've lost like say a game or two, but you feel so disappointed in yourself and can't stand it that you go on to play a few more games in hopes of getting a win or two to cheer you up, but instead it's as if your strategy and thinking have all gone "broken" overnight because you'll find yourself losing all those games too. As you mentioned, it's essentially a repetitive cycle of destruction from that point on.

So as my advice states, just wait a while before playing games again.

Yeah I'm not good enough for this to happen to me on WL, but I can tell you on FPS shooters (I don't want to brag too much but I have over 2 K/D ratio in every multiplayer FPS I play regularly) that some days you wonder if your skills got a divorce from your fat arse. They come back in a few days, though.

Yeah definitely, at one point it even brought me to the verge of retirement from warlight!

Just take a week or so vacation to really clear your head of all warlight and when you get back you'll feel a lot better trust me :)

Juk, when will your 1/2 year-long break from warlight playing end? I'm sure you have recovered your skills.

And a break surely will help anyone who has experienced this.

My playstyle tends to be highly influenced by my moods. When in a good one, on the rare occasion, I play extremely well (by my standards), sometimes being able to defeat strong opponents without much thought extra. However, that is rare. When lower in mood, my playstyle begins to severely suffer, and correlates to increased half-assing in moves.

My recommendations are to not take turns when feeling down, and if that persists, take a break from the game. It helps you recover and you'll be refreshed when you return.

To quote my brother - "I'm a winner already, no need for me to win the ladders.".

If you get such downfall, play team games :)
playing with friends(not random players) usually brings back the older top form. And if you make mistakes, your teammates will correct it and then problem solved.

If not, just sleep/eat well :)

Happened to me yesterday, I lost like 4 games in a row on RT ladder, took a look today on history, and was like "wow man, better stop warlight nah?"

Much more happy about me today, I got booted on like 3 games ! Maybe the sound alert thing will be fixed someday

Mega, you're the tops! Just play more games with me and your skill will look immeasurable, comparatively.

btw the warlight word of the day is now "desultory"
