let us know what you think of the video, is there anything we could have done better?

also feel free to share in this thread invaluable strategic information on how to play Guiroma template and/or include your example games with specific questions.

I like the dual commentary and focus on picks, but I remember seeing some games on the real time ladder where Buns focused picks on the west of the map and won decisively.

Maybe you guys could also go over a game that displays what you were talking about for picks as an example type of thing?

It would be good if you will make an additional thread that collects all links ti your Strategic Guides

Pardon99: it depends largely on the layout ofcourse. please post links to the games you mention and ask specific questions? maybe some top ladder folks will drop by to comment on them. they usually reply usefully on these kind of topics.

KKND: hmmm, i think they are relatively easy to find searching the forum, no need for another thread. the idea was actually for the videos to get added on MotD's MD Ladder, where if you go to the template page you'll find the video there next to a list of the games in that template. the purpose was to have a page where players new to the template could easily learn the essentials by watching the video and analysing a few games. these threads only came as an after thought that maybe some folks would take the opportunity to ask questions about specific doubts on specific templates they are currently playing / learning / mastering.

I'm not sure if going too deep on a specific boatd makes sense for such a video. I tried to give general advice on what i'm looking for when picking on that template.

Thanks, the commentary makes quite some sense to me. I haven't played the template often but looking at the settings (4 picks, a ton of wastelands and some ineffecitve bonuses) you probably usually should lose quite some of your first picks. I don't like counterpicking to much on such settings, so picking the prime spots with some nice combos for (close to) maximum first turn income is probably the straight forward way to go.

This is one of the games I'm talking about. NZPhoenix picked small bonuses and lost because of it, but I'm focusing more on Buns's picks. With 1-5, he ensures that he has a standpoint in the East, and then covers the West (both areas are relatively good with wastelands).

I don't really have any questions aside from, what do you guys think about this type of picking? Maybe some good players could analyze Buns's picks.

(I also don't have more games to show because I was randomly clicking on past games with Buns on the real time ladder and seeing if they're guiroma :P...I wonder if a search function for specific templates could be implemented.)

Actually, if you check the game after turn 1, buns had the income advantage. He picked smaller bonuses than boston. Boston outpicked himself with that 1st pick in an inefficient bonus.

About buns picks: he is not certain at all to get a pick in east, he kinda relies on 1st pick, which is a little risky, cause arabia is a very common 1st pick on guiroma (in the east and always ftb). He picks syria 5th to have at better chance of getting at least one pick in east in case he misses 1st. Northern gaul was nice cause there were no good picks in that area available, but it's mainly good if buns gets both of his 1st and 2nd picks.

If buns and boston bordered on arabia/egypt for example, buns expansion would be slower than bostons and he would risk elimination in east as soon as he tries to complete northern gaul.

What happens though if you get your first four picks, and you're stuck in the south?

I get good first turn income, i get a foot in syria and complete numidia 2nd turn and then i should meet my opponent at latest cause if he isn't in syria, he picked probably badly. There are not too many options on this board.
In case we don't meet, i will complete egypt and move towards spain while i keep expanding in syria
