Hello!

As revealed in the WarLight blog, https://www.warlight.net/blog/index.php/2017/01/warlight-in-2017/, we are working at making a new WarLight client to eventually replace the iOS, Android, and Flash versions of the game.

An alpha version of this is now available for those who want to help test it! This alpha is only usable by WarLight members. If you're not a member, check out https://www.warlight.net/Membership for details. A free trial is available.

The current alpha is available as a downloadable package for Windows, Mac, or Linux, or playable through the website via WebGL. Eventually we plan to launch this on iOS and Android as well.

To play on the website, add the string &Unity=1 to the end of any Flash page. This should work for any Flash page except the map designer and building community levels.

Since the standalone version has no games browser yet, to play a specific game or level you must copy/paste game IDs into the app. Here's how:

To play a multi-player game:
1. Open the Multi-Player tab on the website.
2. Click the game you want to play
3. Look at your address bar. At the end, you'll see something like ?GameID=######
4. Copy the number shown here and paste it into the Unity app in the multi-player box.

To play a single-player game:
1. Open the Single-Player tab on the website.
2. Click the level you want to play, either a level on the map or a community level.
3. Look at your address bar. At the end, you'll see something like ?Level=##
4. Copy the number shown here and paste it into the Unity app into the single-player box.

In the future, we will add a multi-player and single-player games browser so these steps aren't necessary. That just hasn't been built yet.

Here are the patch notes from today's update:


3.17.3.10:
- Added the tutorial. To try it, start up single player level 21.
- Added update notifications so the app will tell you if a new version is available.
- The Nudge and Boot buttons are no longer visible in single-player games.
- The end-game dialog now has an "All graphs" button to go straight to Statistics Graphs, if the player has unlocked the statistics panel.
- Hid the luck graphs on 0% SR games, since they would be all 0s anyway.
- Fixed a bug with the way rectangles scaled in some places, such as when re-sizing the color column of the statistics players table.
- Autopilot button is no longer shown if you're not in the game. Thanks to Muli for suggesting.
- Clicking autopilot's run+commit button now skips watching the final turn.
- Territories that aren't part of bonuses now say "None" in their inspect window. Thanks to TBest for reporting this.
- Territories that don't have any connections now say "Nowhere" in their inspect window. Thanks to DanWL for suggesting this.
- Fixed a bug that made the game deselect your current territory whenever one of your teammates changed their orders.
- Fixed a bug that made players show as turned into AI during distribution when they weren't at that point. Thanks to Muli for reporting this.
- The settings icons in the lobby are no longer scrollable. Thanks to TBest for reporting this.
- Fixed a bug that sometimes caused territory/bonus snapshots to show another territory/bonus behind them. Thanks to TBest for reporting this.
- Fixed a bug that prevented information about teammate's orders from popping up when selecting them. Thanks to TBest for reporting this.

I really like it.
I like the fact that after you finish deploying it moves you automatically to attack mode.
However I was in Big Europe map and when I was trying to make attacks it kept bringing up the card dialog box. I guess it just needs a little fine tuning, but I like how much faster everything is.

The big maps get bogged down on the Flash version esp when you get near the end. I didn't see any hesitation at all playing my big maps.
I cant wait till its all finished.

3.17.3.11:
- Finished implementing map preview. You can now view bonuses, distribution modes, or toggle army numbers on the map.
- The "Cards" button in the orders menu is now visible when you're in history.
- Renamed "Opponent's Cards" button to "Cards"
- Added an entry to the debug menu to show FPS or to alter the target framerate.
- Added the hotkey "Y" to open the statistics menu.

@Fizzer: Suggestion that has nothing to do with the actual game. As more bugs begin to crop up, perhaps splitting the changelogs into [Updates] and [BugFixes] might be a good formatting idea. Completely unimportant change tho. Tried the unity player, adore the visuals. I'd like a few of the settings to show up in the unity player, whether that's the settings pane in unity or unity translating the preferences from the flash version. (e.g.: I'd like the slider to always show up.)

Sorry, I haven't followed the details. Since someone posted that the Unity version of the Cowzow AI actually plays sound I'm wondering to which extent some competitive AI play can now get supported.

I'd like the slider to always show up.

The deployment slider always shows up in the Unity client except for in the tutorial and in level 1, where it doesn't show up at all. The rest of your settings should translate from the Flash version already.

A new version is out! Here's the changelog:


3.17.3.12 2017-03-10:
- Changed the way cards are shown in the upper left and in the card's dialog when browsing history. It now shows you cards that you had at that point in the game. The "Cards" button in the upper right now says "Opponent's cards" again, as it's only use is for seeing opponent's cards instead of viewing your own cards in history.
- Changed the default FPS cap from infinite to 60. This fixes high CPU usage on the app. This can be configured in the debug menu. Thanks to Muli and TBest for reporting this.
- Changed the default anti-aliasing from 2x to 8x to make the app less pixelated. This can be configured in the debug menu. Thanks to Adam for reporting this.
- The card preview section's click radius now hugs the size of the cards instead of the area to the right of the cards. Thanks to TBest for reporting this.
- Added some padding around the vote-to-end dialog so text does not get cut off. Thanks to TBest for reporting this.
- Added some padding around the "No cards" label in the Cards dialog so the text does not get cut off. Thanks to Muli for reporting this.

- Fixed the single player balloons so they don't always overlap other dialogs, except during tutorial.
- Fixed a bug that caused the autopilot menu to stay open when hiding the autopilot button. However, leave it open for about a second so people mad-clicking the autopilot button in singleplayer can click it that one final time to skip the turn. Thanks to TBest for reporting this.
- Fixed a bug that caused map visuals and other things to leak memory. Thanks to muli for reporting this.
- Fixed a bug that caused the background to cover the map when launching map preview. Thanks to njittam for reporting.
- Fixed a bug that caused errors if you selected a bonus in map preview and then closed map preview. Thanks to njittam for reporting.
- Fixed a bug that caused an error when viewing player's speed. Thanks to muli for reporting this.
- Fixed a bug during the tutorial that made the orders list nearly impossible to click while the arrow was pointing at it.

Mods are next in his immediate roadmap (taking priority even over a game browser, which kinda bothers me a bit :P) which is going to mean actual diplos with proper ruling will be possible.

One reason why a games browser is a lower priority is that we will also soon have a WebGL version of the Unity app. In the WebGL version, you will be able to use the Unity app on the website in place of the Flash app.

Therefore, for WebGL, a games browser isn't needed since you can use the website to select the game. There are just some bugs making the WebGL port right now so it's waiting for the next version of Unity to come out which should fix the bugs.

We also want to get the mod framework out ASAP so that mod authors can start developing awesome mods, so that by the time Unity is released they'll be more developed and ready to go.

Well honestly I just want a way to have my games clickable on the unity client so I don't have to open up the browser, but instead open up the unity app immediately everytime ^^

Take your time though, I'm in no rush :P`I'm also hyped for mods, so whatever comes up I'll be happy.
