I can say that Judaism has been built on a culture of learning. One of the greatest things a Jew can do is teach and study the holy texts. For most of Jewish history, Jews often set up schools for their children, so that they could learn the torah. Whether this carried over is debatable. But I have a theory on why.

Basically, when you're living somewhere where the locals view you with contempt, you're going to want to show them you're just trying to live your life. Often by breaking the stigma. And for Jews, that was to work as hard as they can to show they can achieve what non-Jews can. This drive leads most second or third generation immigrants to get very good jobs, so that they can integrate.

Whether the IQ thing is true, I'm not sure. But Jewish culture as a whole places an emphasis on the student, learning, and teaching.
