This Europe map is AD 400 Im still cleaning borders and looking for territory names in Venedia or any ideas to improve the map.
https://www.warlight.net/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=57782

I think slavic peoples lived in Venedia like sclavenians dont know more about them and the baltic peoples in 400.

Are you kidding? It is beautiful - the angle and the clouds and the textures - they create a unique image! It will probably have a great future in case it is well balanced.

I will clean the inner borders but let the gap between bonus borders and will move the map to the center of the screen.

Roman territories named after administrative divisions, all other after tribes, about venedians still know just there were proto slavic people but dont know the names of their tribes. Maybe should name after geographic specifics like rivers.

I don't like names like "Finno-Ugria" or "North Germania" (Germania generally doesn't refer to the northern tribes) here, I think "Finnic Tribes" and "Scandinavian Tribes" would be in better style. Similarly, "Venedae" instead of "Venedia". Just feels made up.
And indeed there is a shortage of names for Baltic and Slavic tribes at that time... just weren't known to Romans/Greeks, also I think you extended Slavs too much east - the three easternmost territories propably should go to Finnic Tribes bonus. It was still before the Slavic expansion in all directions, and even then took them hundreds of years to extend east of today's Belarus/Ukraine.

"Sclaveni" is one of the early written names for Slavs, so territory named that could be one of the unnamed ones in Venedae, not in the Steppes. Similarly you could use name "Stavanoi", attested even earlier west of 'Venedae' (so could be one of the territories in Eastern Venedae/Venedia). From west to east "Agathyrsi", "Neuri"/"Navari", "Budini", "Basilici" are some tribe names known roman sources which could make it into the 'Slavic' bonuses. I recognize name "Perierbidae" somewhere more northeast but idk how valid it is. You could definitely reuse name "Venedae" for some westernmost territory. Also "Serbii" (hence todays Serbia) was a sarmatian tribe but idk where it could be by 400 AD... somewhere in the eastern part of Steppes could be ok.

If you're very desperate there's also Herodotus' "Melanchlaeni" around there too XD

For Baltics, you can choose from "Galindae", "Sudoviae" (more or less today's northeastern Poland + Kaliningrad Oblast) and "Aestii"... not enough for 5 territories sadly.

Also you have two "Alans" territories, the other one could be renamed "Caucasian Alans".

Thanks Onoma you helped a lot.

About baltics: it is not correct if I call them Prussians, Lithuanians, Yotwingians, Letgalians, Samogithians? They are baltic people and their baltic ancestors lived there but maybe this date too early to use these names? I saw there Aestii name in a map but that is not the same as Eestii (estonians)?

About Alans: there are 3 Alan territory in Caucasus, north to Carpathians and east to Scythia Minor. Will be something difference because WL dont let same names for more territories.

About Venedae: you could be right that before slavic expansion on the east perhaps there were finnish people like the extinct Meryas or Muromas. Or Komi, Udmurt, Mari, Morvin people before they pushed to east. But very hard to say any certainly things about them in 400. Finnish peoples will be not part of Slav bonus although can be part of East and West-Venedae. Maybe the two big core-territory in Venedae will be Sclaveni and Stavanoi, and the smaller lands around them will be what you wrote with finnish tribes on the east.

And about Serbii. If they were sarmatians then they will be part of Iranians bonus. So you said that the original serbians were iranians, like the original bulgarians who where turks just later assimilated to slavs?

+ Maybe I make a tiny bonus for eastern finnish people and split the big slav lands to replace them.

++ Map repositioned. It is at the center in your screens?

Those names are so much later, that they don't feel in line with what's on the map. Those tribes might've as well not existed yet (though Galindae reappear in history as a Prussian tribe). I would use these names as a last resort. As for Aestii they def. weren't Estonians, even if name similarity is more than coincidence (which we can't know).

The archeological material cultures that could be linked in any way to early Slavs generally don't extend the limes russianus I mentioned, so I assume that indeed the immobile Muroms, Meshchers etc (tho again, those names are a bit newer) were dwelling there all the time up to Rus' written history times.

As to Serbs, yeah, only difference is that Serbs were already slavicized when arriving to Balkans.

Yes, the map appears on the center. :)

I made some new territories as well more missing names. Maybe lengthen the steppe toward Asia.

I made praefectuses for the empires. The Finn bonus may became too big, it seems hard to get, the southern land can move to East Venedae or Steppe.
