After having played a good load of games on the 1v1 ladder template I thought I'd know all the mechanics of it. But just as I was playing a casual game today, I came across a (for me) new little detail: you don't have to hold a captured territory to get your card pieces!

For most experienced players that might not come across as that much of a deal, but I'm trying to make a 'broader' point here: there's always still something to be learned and finding details as the one I described is amazing every time. I really do like Warlight for the complexity it offers in that regard (and this is just one particular template).

How do you feel about this? Have you also found details in the game mechanics, even after hundreds or thousands of games? Did the understanding you thusly got make you better or was what you found out not much more than a fun fact?

P.S.: I really didn't put much thought into how to name this thread.

a minute ago I discovered that even if a player played a shitload of games, and reached #2 on the ladder, that doesn't mean he knows all the basic rules of the game. I was shocked and awestruck..

edit: ;] no offence meant

edit2: my argument is invalid - you played less than 600 games..

I discovered this awhile ago, but it caught me heavily off-guard, In multi-atacc if player A gifts player B a territory (with armies on) then player B can move those armies the same turn!

Once I won a game using the attack by percentage setting. The only time I ever used it xD

In mine first few hundreds games i thought that "random move order" means they are all totally random (so when trying to run from opponent's stack i was attacking every territory i could hoping that at least one of my move will be executed before his) :D

I learned the hard way that you cannot airlift some armies out before abandoning. You will just lose your airlift card. :'(

You have to eliminate everyone apart from yourself.
