It's terrible what happened in Manchester. And I want to say that these terrorists who claim to be Muslim are doing this all on purpose. What they want to achieve is segregation between Muslims and non-Muslims, which could possibly lead to Muslims feeling that they're second-class citizens, resulting in radicalisation of some.

Despite the terror-attacks, I'll remain optimistic, because optimism is the sword against terrorism. These terrorists do not represent the Muslims, and their horrible deeds are contrary to what is teached in Islam.

Lastly, I feel so horrible to the people who died in Manchester yesterday. I express sincere condolences to their families and friends and wish them the best during this hard time.

of course not! everything else would be ridiculous. You cant accuse someone for crimes someone else commit. otherwise there would be Sippenhaft again, which is outdated since the middle ages.

However I'm wondering why Britain was targeted and not Germany. after this vast fleet of refugees it would have been more likely to happen in Germany. furthermore it's a weird coincident, that this attack fits perfectly within the recent British, xenophobic politics ...

I think the issue is unbelievably convoluted.

On the left, we have no solutions that are being offered. Small scale terror attacks orchestrated by mentally ill "lone wolves" will continue to happen as they have been many times as of late in France, Germany, Sweden, U.K, U.S, etc. According to many people on the left, we should just get used to these attacks.

On the right, a solution is offered but it's a solution that will probably cause more harm than good. The right wants to enforce strict border control which probably won't actually accomplish much good and a whole lot of bad. We would basically be seeing Muslim bans similar to that proposed by Donald Trump in the U.S abroad, and we would be giving ISIS more fodder as well.

I do agree that Islam is not really the whole problem here, but a small part of the problem. Muslims already have to deal with a lot of stereotyping and discrimination as it is just for being Muslim and it is not really fair. I think the influence is mostly cultural. In different Muslim majority nations there are different rates of certain contentions held about Islam, types crimes being committed, different practices, etc.

We need to direct our anger towards ISIS and their affiliates, not towards Muslims as a whole.

Most terrorists are pretty independent working and police have to shut them down all the time, so there's lots of randomness to be had

Most terrorists are pretty independent working

I'd be very surprised if this one was independent. Anyone can get a knife (or gun in some places), and start attacking people. Anyone can ram a vehicle into a building. Few people have the brains to successfully wire a bomb- there's almost definitely a cell operating on the outskirts of Manchester, and the UK government are right to look into that.

What they're not right to do is to use this as an opportunity to take 1 more step closer to a police state. We already had the highest density of security cameras in the world. Now the government, and several branches can view what anybody has done on the internet. The army is literally on the streets in England and Wales now. Couple this with May's manifesto of "I want to regulate what you post on the internet", and this is getting ridiculous. 1984 came late.

Please Elaborate what these "Xenophobic" politics are

Most likely Theresa May's pandering to what's quite literally a "Xenophobe voting block", by saying she'll reduce immigration to below 100,000. Not only is that impossible, but it's also really fucking stupid. This is another way she's trying to choke the NHS- over 1/5 workers there are migrants, and without free tuition, it's not like there's going to be many more English doctors coming. But primarily, she's trying to sweep up the "They're taking our jobs!" voting block, that largely went UKIP in 2015.

furthermore it's a weird coincident

Hmm, a terrorist attack that forces campaigning to be stopped- hurting Labour's campaign the most (a campaign that was only growing because of the ground work ol' Jeremy was able to pull off!) Call Alex Jones!

tl;dr
1) that terrorist wasn't alone
2) the uk is a police state
3) may is pandering to the ukip xenophobes
4) may wants to force the nhs into submission
5) #Maychester - get the conspiracy running !

I mean the left is doing an awful job at this kind of thing. "Open Borders" is definitely not the solution to this ideology.

I think the most intelligent leftists are trying to ignore it in hopes that the terrorists are like attention seekers - not getting the reaction that they want with all the Hashtags and Overlaying profile pictures of that country's flag.

Yeah, I don't think ignoring it will work very well.

I don't know what country you're talking about, but the country at hand in this thread is the UK, where the leftist party is Labour. Labour definitely don't support open borders- in fact, they even accept the idea of Freedom of Movement being abolished after Brexit.

Also, let's not pretend that Labour and the Conservatives bring in wildly different amount of immigrants. From 2003 to 2009, Labour brought in 1.716 million immigrants. From 2010 to 2016, the Tories brought in 1.765 million immigrants. It's not like any party is tougher on immigration.

https://www.migrationwatchuk.org/statistics-net-migration-statistics

Also "not the solution to this ideology" ??? The Westminster attacks were a half-black half-white ex-Christian- nobody saw that coming, the guy was a madman. This attack was from the son of a Libyan refugee family who came in the 80s (of which every single day was governed by the Conservatives; there was no "left wing open borders policy" that brought this family in).

Of the 30 terrorist attacks in the west, in 2017, only 6 were committed by religiously motivated Muslims. Less than 100 people have died as a result of them. There isn't a crisis. The "actions to prevent terrorism" being employed by the Conservatives are much more harmful than the terrorists themselves.

I really could use the opinion of someone on the left for this issue.... anyone?

1 of 2 groups is at fault because of this. It's either the police force, or the Conservatives. This Salman lad, who committed the act, was well-known by his peers and Imam to be a radical. 2 of his university peers contacted terrorism hotlines after he started supporting suicide bombers, and his mosque's Imam had sent him out, after it was found he was an ISIS sympathiser. He was reported to the police 5 times, and was only put on the "To be looked into" list, instead of the "Holy fuck we need to watch this guy", list. This is because either a) The police force are at fault and he should have been prioritised, or b) There are more dangerous people to be looked into, and the police don't have a big enough budget to be dealing with all of them.

https://nyebevannews.co.uk/when-manchester-met-the-police-federation-warned-theresa-may-atrocities-would-happen-she-said-they-were-crying-wolf-scaremongering-about-terrorism/

The Tories have been cutting the police force for years, and even 2 years ago, Manchester's police force told her to reverse it. Perhaps with a bit more money they could have looked into this more. I don't know, though. Either the police force are at fault for not looking into it, or they wanted to look into it, but didn't have the funding. Either way, of all places, the government should *not* be cutting money from the police force.

I have my criticisms of Labour, but don't mischaracterise them, or the "terrorism crisis" that's happening now.

@ Ranek: Germany is easily explainable. Unlike the USA, UK or France who have a history in intervening in Africa/the Middle East, Germany has none. Furthermore, they don't veto the Palestine issue through some asinine veto in the UN. That is also why terrorism is particularly concentrated in France/UK area and not in general Europe.

Also, there isn't one single solution to deterring terrorism, of the international Islamic kind. Most of the perpetrators are young, relatively well educated people who are led by even more educated assimilated people. What triggers them is a sense of 'injustice'. For them, death is merely a reward. There is no material solution to what you can do to just eradicate that line of thought.

The only possible solution is preventing a trigger. The easiest of which are Palestine and continued USA/UK quasi-UN intervention in Muslim countries. Continue to bomb their families, their kids, their loved ones, they quite literally won't think twice before doing the same in the streets of Europe. It doesn't justify violence nor the murder of innocents in either side. But it is the easiest recruitment factor involved.

I have to ask, how do people who preach the Quran, do things in the name of Allah, how do they "not represent the Muslims"?

All Muslims are not good.

People who blow themselves up in the name of Allah are Muslims! ISIS claimed responsibility for the Manchester attack!

Muslims are the problem.
