Progress report: Finished all of India, Tibet, and Xinjiang. I'm not that positive about Russia though. Siberia wasn't that important to the ancient world...

The Xiongu held control over most of siberia during the 3rd century BCE and should be the northern fringe of the map considering the large size of the empire

some links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xiongnu

http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Xiongnu

http://www.silk-road.com/artl/xiongnu1.shtml

their main purpose was as a extremity on the Silk Road and they incorporate not only siberia but mongolia, north china, and a small part of modern day kazakhstan

all thanks to a little wikipedia search

Also the Xiongu were very important in chinese history because during the waring states period, many of the smaller chinese states had to create small walls to protect themselves form invasion which would result in the construction of the Great Wall of China to protect from them; furthermore, under the Han dynasty they had united to create a powerful confederacy which would dominate the Qin dynasty and unify most of china. Economically various chinese states would pay tribute to it for protection during the warring states period exerting a powerful economic vicegrip over north china. Also was a part of the Silk road (albeit minor part) so it may not have influenced western history that much; its impact on chinese and global history cannot be ignored

Map of the World circa 300 BC

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ad/East-Hem_200bc.jpg

also, double check the names and add aksum to your map due to the fact it is a very important empire and will have a very important impact in history (it would be another 400 years until it becomes truely great however)

Thanks for the added info on Siberia/ Xiongnu. It makes me think about possibly adding all of China, but that would be too much work and the map might be too big for some people's tastes. I also need names for territories that date back to 272 BC, and that could be a problem for upper Siberia and Scandinavia. (It was problematic enough for India)

I'm a very good researcher, so list topics you need maps/info on and i'd be more than happy to provide some general knowledge (i also know a good deal of ancient, classical, and modern history if anyone is interested in making historical maps in the future)

well i have a map but its based on the ethnic people of northern Scandanavia and i don't know if you would prefer a political union (very little evidence of a political union is available since they were mainly herdsman and tribes people that were not as big a factor on European or World history)

the ethnic group is the Saami/Sami (got two spellings)

areas traditionally associated with the Saami/Sami

i also have some idea of who lived in north siberia (both regions had no written language at the time so i'm basing all this on ethnic groupings) and the region was sparesly populated with little or no relevance to european or global history (for similar reasons) but if you wish to incorporate it the major groups were the Finnic peoples, Yukaghir, Uguric, and Samoyedic

link with map and subdivisions of ethnic groups (doubt it would include a map)

fyi the largest group is 34,000 people currently so they were never really big to start with

also possibly incorporate ireland and britain due to roman knowledge of the areas at the time there are some records (Britannia and Hiberina (ireland) were what the romans referred to them as)

So far, there a lot of distortion in the east, so before I continue to add more distorted territories, are there anymore mistakes you can catch in the map?

Very nice map, looks much more refined but a correction

-Aksum should be included because (even though at the time it was a minor state) would be extreemly prominent and important in a few hundreed years due to eliminating its enemies and becoming the premier tradeing state on the entire east african coast (i'm an american from east africa so i noticed this quite a while back)

-if you ever think about expanding a possibly helpful link including other regions (it is based on the impact of the nabateans, however and is thus limited)

scroll down and it provides a map of indian ocean civilizations around 250 BC: http://nabataea.net/vietnam.html

it is mostly trade routes, however
