I've no games and friends on steam, and since they're currently at sale I'd like to buy some at half of their price. With the steam summer sale that is currently happening it might be interesting for me to buy some games. As someone who was little experience, what would you recommend me to play? I hate shooting games, but I love strategy and multiplayer.

My current games I installed are the complete edition of Civilization 5 because it was offered low at a crazy price and EU4 (only the base game) but I would not like to buy any dlc's of EU4 because the game is stupid, worthless and unplayable

Democracy 3 is offered at -75% in the steam shop that's a definite must buy for me
This War of Mine - this thing is offered for less than 4 euros, another spot in my shopping cart huehue
HOI4 - I've heard the company behind it , is quite Jewish when it comes to pricing their dlc's. Additionally the game is useless if you haven't bought any of the dlc's. The greedbeings! >:(

Don't listen to the F lies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It pisses me off when folk criticise Paradox_Interactive, all who criticise it are GREEDY CUNTS who feel entitled to all. As owner of EU4 with 1 DLC and HOI4 with no DLC.

1. P_I sells too much DLC and is selling unfinished games.
*As someone who's played at least 400 hours on EU4 without any DLC and 300 with 1 DLC, it feels finished. The DLC are simply tack-ons that add new depth to the game, and you should not buy them all at once since otherwise you get an overcomplex game and you won't appreciate the DLC as much. Let's not forget as well that 1. 1/2 their updates don't even have any DLC to go with it, and 2. the updates with DLC also have free stuff, and 3. if they selled no DLC at all it wouldn't be ecoomically profitable to keep updating the games, so they wouldn't even be updating the game at all after the first few months of release (once the hype wore off) if you wanted everything to be free. And 70% the content is free anyway, so shut yourself. HOI4 also feels full without any DLC.

2. P_I has ramped up prices.
*They have recently standardised prices to be at USA level, internationally. This doesn't affect Americans at all, nor most of the buyerbase who've already bought the game. If it's too much of your money to buy a DLC, then you'll have to be with the full game you already have instead of expansion packs. Let's not also forget their dirt-cheap sales as well. Right now, you can get EU4 for 10$, Victoria 2 for 5$, and HOI4 for 10$. I don't care if you live in America or Afganestan, you can afford that crap if you really want it.

But no, EU4 has decided to go back on their pick to standardise prices and are offering compensation, in 3 forms: 1. worth lost straight to Steam Wallet; 2. buying P_I games over the worth lost just for you; or 3. giving 2x the worth lost to the United Nations Human Refugee Fund. While this is obviously a publicity stunt, how can you not like them?!?!

3. P_I sells a lot of worthless DLC.
This is true. The worst exemple is the Art of War and Common Sense E-books, where they are just straight-up selling books in common domain, slapped with the Paradox_Interactive logo, and with a short foreword of nonsense. They also sell a lot of packs that you barely even see, like new 3d models. And I agree, these are worthless. Why is this a problem? Some folk have loads of money to spend and think it's worth it to get the most aesthetic experience for it. If you don't think it adds anything to the game, why does it bother you that they're selling it? Just don't buy it, and let the ultrawealthy buy it and fund more updates and stuff.

However, I still haven't learned how to play HOI4, so I can't recommend it or dissuade it really (yet).

Buy Victoria 2, I'm getting it, it's 5$, and looks cool.

JIDF signing off.

"without any DLC and 300 with 1 DLC, it feels finished."

I used to play the base game without DLCs for a long time, and I always felt some features were missing(NO PROVINCE DEVELOPMENT?!) at that time which was later added to the game as "DLCs" for extra cost, so I will respectfully disagree.

plus there's the whole HOI4 fiasco to further cement the point that PDX releases unfinished games.

"They have recently standardised prices to be at USA level, internationally."

while this is true that they merely standardised prices, the fact that their games are already expensive will always upset the customers even if it is justified...and for any business, the customer happiness is the biggest priority.

"Buy Victoria 2, I'm getting it, it's 5$, and looks cool."

oh boy make it two, we need to organize a vic2 game!

Any really cheap games I'll buy. Make it 3 for victoria 2

Anyway about the base games of EU4 & HOI4. They're basically unplayable at this point. The AI will have access to all dlc features while you are not, and with the current update it's impossible to win a game without buying the dlc's. Also Paradox never patches its base version of the game, leaving them unfinished and with many bugs

What. the. Hell. are. you. on. about? The AI does not have access to any DLC-exclusive features. The AI does have a few unique moves that only happen if an AI plays the country, mainly for historicity, but that's not related to DLC at all. And besides Art of War (which imt is OP) and Rights of Man, all the other DLC make winning a game (world conquest) harder to some extent. Cossacks means that your allies want favors for favors, common sense means there's just more development to conquest and core and fight against, El Dorado makes things in America less consistent.

The only time I've seen DLC actually harming a fellow without it was a glitch that was fixed in a patch. Vanilla EU4 is not unplayable, go get some mods if you really think it is, though. Or make one yourself. Another great thing about Paradox_Interactive is their high modability of games.

If you were talking about HOI4, idk. Like I said, I don't recommend it nor dissuade it.

WHAT'RE YOU ON ABOUT?!?! I admit they pay less attention than they should, but they still pay a lot of attention, patching exploits and bugs and illogic things each patch. The latest patch, 1.22.1, here's what changed from 1.22.0.

Siberian Frontier Custom Idea now has a cost.
Fixed large Colonial nation bonus to Land Force Limit not being given
Fixed unlocalized variable for Russian Powers
Fixed Tributary request spam
Nations are now deranked when vassalized
Fixed Mac Checksum issues
Blocked new achievements for nation designer countries or if there's any nation designer country in the world.
Fixed that Tributaries became independent when getting their own subjects.
AI now only gets -20 acceptance per relation over limit for alliance and support independence actions.
Fixed so when you hover over a non-existent great power entry that it doesn't crash
Fixed crash caused by bad timing where province is unselected in same frame that user clicks "open siege" button
Fixed crash in macro builder if you hovered over something with no rebel faction
Fixed huge performance hit / freeze when trying to build large army template in large country.
Transferring occupation of a province now properly cancels all mercenary constructions there.
Fixed getting additional subjects as junior partners when you form Union with a nation
Fixed countries releasing primitive countries in peace deals becoming primitive
Fixed rare CTD when selecting fleet right after winning battle.

the fact that their games are already expensive

If you buy it not in sale...that's your own stupidity and only your own to blame for being a bad, uninformed shopper. And on sale...unless you live in Uganda or Rwanda or have a war going on...you've no excuse. Furthermore, the changes are being reverted, so this nulls the whole argument even further.

I always felt some features were missing(NO PROVINCE DEVELOPMENT?!)

Don't whine about the wheel not being invented. And I never thought province development was a much-needed part of the game.

I just picked up Jalopy for 8.99, it's early access, but for some reason it's really good.

Stardew Valley is also way better than its Steam Page makes it look, I thought it would be mildly fun and I'd play for like ten hours total, but I'm already at Ten with no sign of slowing down. It's crazy good, even though it just looks like a farm simulator sort of game.

If you're looking for strategy, just play Civ 5 till your eyeballs fall out. Don't buy any of the other Civ games, especially not BE or 6. Get the DLCs for 5, they're worth it.

If Inside is on sale, get it. It's not a strategy game, just a short little puzzle platformer, but it's one of the best games I've ever played.

Good Luck!

Stardew Valley seems like a new Minecraft. You just have so much freedom, but it doesn't come off as tedious (or does it? maybe I should say too tedious* as even Minecraft has a lot of tedium in it).

Civ5 is awful

way too much micromanagement in Civ5. (and I say this as an EU4 player, so you know it's bad)
